GENERAL:
In accordance with the Hot Springs County Hospital District DBA Hot Springs Health (HSH) Personnel Policy and Procedures and the requirements of our accrediting bodies, the employee will: support the mission “Partnering with our community for quality health and healing”, the five core values “Ownership, Always better than yesterday, Service first, Integrity, and Stewardship of our resources (OASIS). POSITION SUMMARY:
The high school summer internship program is designed to enhance a student’s knowledge of healthcare services. Interns will experience a wide variety of settings as they assist and work in numerous departments and units. Interns will work under established hospital policies, procedures and standards with direction and guidance from a supervisor and mentor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Observe, or shadow healthcare workers in their job setting to gain knowledge and
- understanding of healthcare careers.
- Model employee service excellence standards in all interactions with HSH patients,
visitors, vendors and staff.

- Education: The Summer Intern must have completed their high school sophomore year.

- Preferred: Participation in Health Professions Club ( or similar entity)
- Personal Skills: Must demonstrate all standards of behavior. Portrays a positive attitude in interactions with patients, their families, co-workers and supervisors. Follows through with assignments and displays good listening skills. Seeks out opportunities for learning new skills and procedures. Uses effective methods to work together with staff to accomplish goals. Practices good personal hygiene and wears professional attire appropriate to the area of assignment.
Essential Physical Abilities:
Ability to frequently walk lengthy distances. Navigate a wheelchair carrying an adult throughout the hospital. Must have adequate hearing capabilities to communicate effectively with a variety of customers.
Essential Mental Abilities: Must be able to read and write English, perform simple math and handle small amounts of money. Ability to organize several tasks, to appropriately prioritize and complete.
Essential Technical/Motor Skills:
Must have basic computer skills to perform email, computerized HR functions and testing/learning requirements. Keyboard/computer experience, requiring use of fine motor skills and precise hand/eye coordination desirable.
Essential Interpersonal Skills: Must have the ability to portray a positive attitude In Interactions with patients, their families, co-workers and leadership. Excellent follow through with assignments and displaying good listening skills. Seeks out opportunities for learning new skills and procedures. Uses effective methods to work together with staff to accomplish goals and manage conflict effectively. Practices good personal hygiene and wears professional attire appropriate to area of assignment. Demonstrates honesty and integrity in all aspects of the job.
