ABOUT THE CAREER & COLLEGE PREP PROGRAM AT iQ ACADEMY, LOS ANGELES AND THE HS CTE TEACHER POSITIONS:

iQ Academy, Los Angeles delivers online/virtual home based instruction to K-12 students in California. While our schools do offer some scheduling flexibility, students are still required to complete approximately 4-6 hours of coursework daily and log attendance. We use the K12, inc. curriculum as the basis for instruction and you will teach via the Engageli platform. Teachers instruct students online daily both synchronously and asynchronously.

High School Career Technical Education (CTE) teachers carry a caseload of both content & homeroom students. They meet with content students throughout the week in their virtual classrooms to provide direct & targeted instruction, as well as support students in coursework, provide additional one-to-one support, & feedback, & grade work within three days of submission. Teachers build lasting relationships with their homeroom students through regular communication throughout the school year & monitor attendance, progress, & engagement, providing interventions when necessary to ensure students remain engaged & learning. We do our best to assign homeroom students locally as teachers are required to plan & attend in person outings & events; CTE relevant events when applicable. CTE teachers communicate daily with learning coaches & families via telephone, web conferencing, & email, act as a CTSO Advisor, hold parent/teacher/student conferences quarterly, attend virtual meetings, & participate in PLCs, data conferencing.

All teachers are required to proctor state testing.

HOURS AND SALARY INFORMATION:
Full time teachers work Monday-Friday from 8:30am-4:00pm. You are not allowed to have another job during these contracted hours.
Full Time High School Teachers: Annual salary based on holding a Bachelors or Masters Degree and up to 5 years of experience in California

REQUIRED CREDENTIAL/CERTIFICATION:

Overview:

Virtual schools are new models in public education. Virtual school teachers are part of a pioneering effort. Our teachers, therefore, need to share the school’s pioneering mission and approach

Summary:

Our Virtual High School Teachers are responsible for ensuring that students achieve mastery of learning objectives. They provide guidance, instruction and support, manage the learning process and focus on students’ individual needs. The Virtual Teacher is a highly qualified instructional teacher responsible for the delivery of specified course content in an online, virtual environment.

The Career and Technical Education Teacher is state certified teacher and/or alternatively certified CTE Teacher responsible for delivering specific course content in an on-line environment. The CTE teacher must also be a provide instruction, support and guidance, manage the learning process, and focus on students’ individual needs. Teachers monitor student progress through Stride’s learning management system, and work actively with students and parents to advance each students learning and to develop and monitor a plan for post-secondary success via online tools like Tallo, California Career Zone, etc.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Instructional/Curricular

• Effectively apply working knowledge of the Stride curriculum and Online School as it relates to grade and subject level assignment

• Maintain and effectively apply knowledge of the State, Common Core and Industry Specific learning standards

• Support students/parents with placement, online school set up, curriculum and instructional issues

• Develop effective instructional tools and strategies to supplement and enhance provided curriculum

• Assistance to ensure curriculum aligns with California state and industry specific standards


Communication

• Contact the student regularly via email or phone

• Respond within appropriate time frame (usually one business day) to student/parent inquiries

• Participate in a weekly teacher conference call with the Academic Administrator

• Attend regularly scheduled face-to-face and virtual staff meetings
Records Management

• Develop and maintain student academic progress

• Generate formal reports

• Alert administrators of any concerns about student progress and attendance

• Process student change in placement, as appropriate

• Complete semester and end of year progress reports
Community

• Organize orientation, training, social, and educational activities for students and families this can include industry tours, job shadowing events, job fairs, etc.

• Create a monthly newsletter or updated Web site

• Travel to assigned geographic areas to support students; participate in school activities such as open houses, expos, information session and orientations, SkillsUSA (or another Career & Technical Student Organization) events, professional development conferences, etc.

• Lead student/parent orientations

• Advisor for SkillsUSA or another Career & Technical Student Organization

• Support CTE Program Coordinator with creating business & industry partnerships in order to help navigate WBL experiences for students
Assessment/Evaluation

• Work with the administration to prepare students for state assessments & program competency testing

• Serve as proctors for site-based proctored exams

• Administer state assessments

• Assess students per policy

• Communicate with teachers, support staff, and Administration as needed. This includes but is not limited to calling and/or emailing teachers and Administration as needed and within 24 hours.

• Must attend all in person meetings as scheduled.

• Other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities:

Teachers will be expected to help with the planning and delivery of Parent Orientations. This will entail contacting the families of assigned students, participating in and attending the event(s), and following up with families to ensure they are prepared for the start of school. Orientations will run during the end of the summer. Additionally, teachers are expected to participate actively in and attend High School Hangouts, Graduation, outings, and other in person events for students and families throughout the year.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements/Experience:

Assignment of Students:

Students will be assigned to teachers by the Director or designee according to a number of variables. In general, the Director or designee will look to assign students by geographical location and/or grade level. Full time classes will be filled prior to assigning students to part time teachers. When appropriate, students from the same family will be assigned to a single teacher.
