About This Position
AmericanAg®, a global provider of diversified reinsurance solutions, is seeking an Associate Reinsurance Underwriter to work out of our Schaumburg, IL office. This will be a hybrid role working in the office a minimum of three days a week. There will be approximately 30% travel in this position.
The Associate Reinsurance Underwriter will be responsible for the profitability of property and casualty reinsurance portfolios, assisting in research, developing insights on trends impacting reinsurance portfolio performance, and advising on underwriting risks. Specifically, the Associate Reinsurance Underwriter is responsible for:
- Assessing the risk of original policies and evaluating their impact on reinsurance portfolios.
- Analyzing the terms and conditions of reinsurance contracts and products to determine the impact on reinsurance underwriting decisions.
- Building a close relationship with clients, developing a deep understanding of their portfolios, and providing guidance acceptability of risks, and treaty terms.
- Assisting in the preparation for and conducting reinsurance underwriting reviews.
- Developing relationships with other departments to respond to clients’ reinsurance needs by analyzing data and insurance markets.
- Reviewing and reporting inconsistencies in reinsurance bordereau reports, referrals, and special acceptance requests.
- Developing an understanding of treaty and facultative underwriting results.
- Developing innovative methods to gain actionable insights from reinsurance portfolios, enabling better risk management decisions.
- Contributing to the achievement of departmental and organizational goals and other projects.
What is needed for this role:
- Bachelor’s degree required; degree in insurance, risk management, finance, or business preferred.
- Prior work or internship experience in insurance, finance, or customer service preferred.
- Foundational knowledge of insurance concepts and industry practices is a plus.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, especially Excel.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, decision making, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to multi-task and handle multiple priorities often under tight deadlines.
- Ability to collaborate and work successfully in a team environment.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; along with the ability to build and develop professional relationships
The expected starting salary range for this position is between $65,000-$80,000. Applicable salary ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position is also eligible for an annual bonus.
