Production Support Technician
Department: Operations – Ennis FLSA Status: Exempt/Full-Time
Amount of Travel Required: 10% Positions Supervised: None
Work Schedule: On-site Monday – Friday, 5:30 am to 2:30 pm, with a 1-hour lunch, are core business hours.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Production Support Technician role provides technical support for production computer systems, testing systems, software applications, network infrastructure, and equipment used in manufacturing operations. This position is responsible for installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting hardware, equipment, and software to ensure reliable operation of production and test systems.
This position also supports manufacturing process improvement efforts by assisting with process troubleshooting, equipment validation, and production trials. The position works closely with the production manager and other teams to analyze system performance, resolve technical issues, and support continuous improvement initiatives that improve safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide technical support for production computer systems, test systems, displays, printers, production software, and network infrastructure.
- Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot hardware, software, and peripheral devices used in production environments.
- Monitor and maintain the daily performance of production systems and test equipment to ensure operational reliability.
- Provide first-level troubleshooting support for hardware, software, and system issues, documenting and tracking problems to identify root causes.
- Install and upgrade system components including operating systems, applications, and network hardware.
- Support preventative maintenance programs for production computers, test equipment, and network systems.
- Assist with development and maintenance of production tracking systems and related technical infrastructure.
- Support process activities including process validation, equipment qualification, and production trials.
- Collaborate with production, quality, maintenance, and engineering teams to resolve technical issues affecting manufacturing performance.
- Support troubleshooting of process and equipment issues through structured root cause analysis methods.
- Help develop and maintain process documentation, including work instructions, PFMEA inputs, and control plans.
- Help generate Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Deviations as needed to improve product and process design.
- Assist in other assigned duties and tasks as assigned by manager.
ESSENTIAL TASKS
- Inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot production line equipment and testing systems.
- Install and configure production hardware including PCs, network switches, printers, and related peripherals.
- Provide user support for production software and systems, ensuring proper operation and minimizing downtime.
- Assist with root cause investigations for production, quality, and equipment issues using structured problem-solving methods.
- Collect and document system and production data to support troubleshooting and process improvement efforts.
- Help develop and maintain process documentation including work instructions, process flows, and control documentation.
- Assist with implementation of process improvements that enhance efficiency, quality, and reliability.
- Support cross-functional teams during equipment installations, system upgrades, and process changes.

EDUCATION
Associate degree, technical certification, or two years of college in Information Technology, Engineering Technology, Electronics, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
EXPERIENCE
One to Two years of related experience in manufacturing systems support, IT support, production systems, or a technical manufacturing environment preferred.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Strong troubleshooting and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems, and production software systems.
- Basic knowledge of Linux, networking, and server configuration.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documentation.
- Familiarity with electronic and mechanical production equipment.
- Ability to use basic tools and measuring devices for equipment support.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
Other Requirements
- Network cable (RS 232 and LAN cable installation)
- Basic programming or database knowledge preferred.
- Ability to learn new programs and equipment as needed.
