About This Position
SWJ Technologie specializes in providing engineering, planning, and project management services across various industries. We are currently seeking Manufacturing Engineer CNC (in all Levels) for a supplier in the automotive industry specializing in drive shafts. This is a direct hire role based in Charleston, SC that requires onsite presence. PURPOSE:
Responsible for the manufacturing processes of sub-assemblies and finished product for a designated manufacturing area. Focus on achieving key product indicators including safety, cost, quality and delivery. Manage continuous improvement projects and determine root cause of production issues. Work is of the technical nature where independent judgment is used and decisions are made within the limits of general practice policies.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop, program, optimize, and troubleshoot CNC machining processes (3-, 4-, 5-axis; FANUC, Siemens, Haas, Mazak).
- Create, maintain, and update process documentation, tooling specifications, work instructions, PFMEAs, and Process Flow Diagrams.
- Support new product introductions, equipment launches, line setup, process validation, and machining trials.
- Analyze manufacturing issues, identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and improve process capability.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Kaizen, Six Sigma, 5S, Kanban, poka-yoke, visual management, and single-piece flow.
- Collaborate with production, quality, maintenance, and engineering teams to ensure safety, quality, efficiency, and throughput targets.
- Evaluate equipment performance, identify productivity and cost-saving opportunities, and perform special projects as required.
- Ensure compliance with international standards, including IATF 16949, ISO 14001, and VDA.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering preferred or AS degree in an Engineering discipline with relevant work experience.
- Experience in automated or semi-automated manufacturing, including hands-on CNC machining and programming.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Strong understanding of machining principles, tolerances, GD&T, materials, and manufacturing methods.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, electrical schematics, and pneumatic diagrams.
- Knowledge of electro-mechanical systems and assembly processes.
- Problem-solving mindset with ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
- Solid communication, documentation, and process development skills.
- Familiarity with Tier I and/or Tier II automotive supplier specifications
- Experience with PLC logic, vision, force/distance control and monitoring, torque and marking systems
- Familiarity with friction welding, assembly, balancing, and/or electro-static painting, and CNC processes
- Demonstrated structured problem solving skills
- Ability to program/troubleshoot Siemens based controllers
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Work is normally performed in an office, laboratory, manufacturing floor, or machine shop setting where physical work includes, but is not limited to sitting, standing, reaching, kneeling, bending, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
- Must be able to understand and comply with all relevant safety practices.
FLSA STATUS/WORKING SCHEDULE:
- Location: Charleston, SC
- Schedule: Mon- Fri, 40 hours/week
- Assignment Start: ASAP, direct hire position
