About This Position
The Service Engineer completes repairs, periodic maintenance, installations and field analyst’s duties when necessary, in a safe and timely manner. Prepares jobs and ensures all equipment, tools and parts are available to efficiently complete the job. Scheduling travel time and making flight arrangements to assure timely and economical travel. Maintains customer relationships to ensure customer satisfaction.
Requirements:Duties and Responsibilities:
•
Follow guidelines of the Service Department within ISO 17025 requirements
•
Assist in assuring that VTS, L. P. and Verichek Technical Services, Inc. have the capability to perform the services as requested by the customer.
•
Train and qualify other service technicians on instrumentation on which the training service engineer has been previously qualified.
•
Conduct routine tasks such as, but not limited to, Periodic Maintenance (PM), calibrations, check-in, installation and repair of instruments, and Positive Metal Identification (PMI)
•
Complete required paperwork on customer site and obtaining customer signature where required.
•
Advise customers of any actions that need to be taken to keep the instrument in good working condition.
•
Submit all paperwork maintained by office administration at the end of each work week.
•
Contact main office daily: call in upon arrival at customer site and at completion of job. Also, report any possible problems or delays in a timely manner.
•
Provide telephone, remote and/or on-site technical support to other technicians when needed.
•
Provide technical support to customers by phone, remote access, or on site.
•
Make suggestions for improving methods, procedures, forms, etc.
•
Provide feedback to main office (service coordinator or technology manager) about all findings at customer site (for example, customer is planning to buy new equipment, customer specific wishes, upgrading of equipment, new service contract opportunities, etc.)

Comply with company policies and procedures giving special attention to safety regulations.

And all other tasks as assigned.

Education/Experience:
1.
Two-year degree in electronics and successful completion of VTS or other recognized calibration training
2.
Minimum of two years’ experience in metal identification and sorting by one or more of the following methods, and/or successful completion of VTS training on one or more lf the following subjects: a. OES arc/spark spectroscopy b. Spark testing c. Chemical spot testing d. X-ray instruments
3.
Working knowledge of steel types and their differences and/or successful completion of VTS training on this subject
4.
Working knowledge of applicable procedures and methods and/or successful completion of VS training on this subject
5.
Familiarity with the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025 and/or successful completion of VTS or other documented training on this subject
6.
Minimum of two years’ experience in operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and programming of optical-emission spectrometers and/or successful completion of VTS training on this subject
Must have basic knowledge of operation of optical-emission spectrometers, knowledge of maintenance and troubleshooting of optical-emission spectrometers, calibration, sample preparation, and basic electrical knowledge
Physical Requirements:
•
Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
•
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
