Job Summary
The Director of Facilities is responsible for the strategic leadership and oversight of the healthcare organization’s facilities operations. This position ensures a safe, efficient, compliant, and forward-looking environment aligned with the organization’s clinical and business priorities. This position serves as the organization’s Safety Officer. The Director collaborates with senior leadership, clinical departments, and external partners to develop and execute strategies that support system-wide growth, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance. This role is critical to supporting the delivery of high-quality patient care through the optimization of physical space and infrastructure.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee daily plant operations and facilities management across all hospital campuses and off‑site locations, ensuring building maintenance, infrastructure reliability, energy management, and environmental sustainability.
- Lead facilities planning and master facilities' strategy, including long‑term capital planning, space design, renovations, and infrastructure development to support evolving healthcare delivery models.
- Ensure regulatory compliance with all federal, state, and local agencies (e.g., The Joint Commission, OSHA, CMS, EPA), serving as a primary liaison during surveys and chairing the Environment of Care Committee.
- Manage and develop a multidisciplinary facilities team, fostering high performance, safety, and a culture of continuous improvement.
- Oversee operational and capital budgets, forecasting future needs, optimizing resource utilization, and identifying cost‑saving opportunities.
- Direct risk mitigation, emergency preparedness, and vendor/contract management, ensuring operational continuity and strong partnerships with external service providers.
Education and Related Experience
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in a healthcare or hospital setting.
- At least 5–7 years of experience in facilities management, hospital engineering, maintenance operations, and/or design and construction.
- Strong understanding of regulatory and accreditation requirements impacting healthcare facilities.
- Track record of successfully leading cross-functional teams and managing complex stakeholder relationships.
- Exceptional project management and organizational skills.
- Ability to interpret architectural and engineering documents.
- Strong financial acumen and experience managing multimillion-dollar budgets.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
Preferred:
- Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM).
- American Society for Health Care Engineering (ASHE) certification.
