Job Description

Directory of Nursing - Oncology Admin

Qualifications:

BSN required. OCN preferred. Licensed by the State of Georgia.

Minimum of seven (7) years professional nursing experience including five (5) in oncology and minimum of two (2) in progressive leadership roles.

Responsibilities:

Assessment of outcome trends related to oncology nursing practice
Assess knowledge, skill and practice competencies of nurses, social workers and navigators
Assess and evaluates practice patterns, therapeutic approaches, equipment, and other patient care products
Monitors nursing practice, identifies weakness and strengths
Plans strategies to overcome barriers to quality oncology nursing practice. Develops evidence-based solutions and facilitates changes in oncology nursing practice when necessary.
Plans, develops, and implements new programs and nursing initiatives
Analyzes the clinical, human resource, and fiscal implications of programs, products and devices into oncology nursing practice.
Plans organizes or conducts educational programs that targets the needs of staff based on an annual needs assessment survey
Develops evidence based solutions to cancer care related issues
Mentors nurses and nursing students
Develops evidence-based oncology related policies, procedures, standards and guidelines
Performs assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patients and their plan of care and treatment plans for medical and radiation oncology patients
Plans, implements, and evaluates the management of cancer and cancer related symptoms
Develops, initiates and evaluates patient care plans
Facilitates multidisciplinary and evidence based approach to the management of patients.
Plans and facilitates the transfer of patients to tertiary cancer centers, palliative care, hospice, or integrative services as indicated.
Responsibilities include evaluation of all patient care delivered in the cancer center; medical oncology, radiation oncology, clinical research, and supportive care services (social services, navigators, and dietitian).

Assists with the planning and organization of cancer screenings and community educational events

Participates in clinical and nursing research as needed
Performs system assessments to identify organizational structures and functions that affect oncology nursing practice
Stays current on regulatory policies on oncology nursing practice, including ONS policies, incorporating new and/or relevant information into departmental policies.
Analyzes the impact of legislative and regulatory policies on oncology nursing practice
Stays abreast of current organizational culture as it affects oncology nursing practice
Implements processes to sustain evidence based changes in oncology nursing practice cancer programs of cancer and clinical innovations.
Participates in community and professional organizations that influence cancer care and supports the role of the OCNs
Actively participates in nursing and multidisciplinary groups that address issues related to cancer care
Actively participates with Commission on Cancer related activities
Assists in the development and promotion of the use of information systems to improve cancer care across departments
Evaluates clinical and fiscal outcomes of oncology products, devices and patient care processes
Evaluates the impact of oncology nursing interventions on human and fiscal resources; Seeks efficient responsible use of all resources.
Actively participates in internal EOC rounds and Joint Commission preparation.
Functions as a clinical resource for software builds, upgrades,implementation, and use by staff.
Assists with medical oncology billing functions. Serves as a professional resource for medical oncology services as related to billing.
