TRIO SSS RETENTION SPECIALIST (10 months-August 1 through May 31)
The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford is accepting applications for the Retention Specialist of the TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Program. SSS is a federal TRIO program funded by the U.S. Department of Education. The SSS program provides academic, career, and personal support services to eligible first-generation, low-income and/or students with disabilities. This is a 10-month, full-time staff position subject to ongoing U.S. Department of Education funding. This position reports to the TRIO SSS Program Manager.
Hiring Range: $48,281.00 annually (10 months worked paid over 12 months)

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, psychology, or related field from an accredited college or university. Master’s degree preferred in related fields. One to two years’ experience working in a TRIO federal program or similar related program/project for underrepresented and at-risk college students. Experience effectively maintaining a caseload of project participants and providing them with services and activities as indicated on individual academic plans. Experience advising college students with academic and non-academic matters.
An individual with experience related to multiculturalism and/or issues related to campus diversity is of particular interest. Preference will be given to individuals who have succeeded in overcoming the disadvantages and circumstances like those of the targeted population.
Experience providing course instruction, group and workshop facilitation, counseling, and knowledge of the ADA and Section 504 preferred.
Utilizes advanced advising knowledge, theory, and practical experience to serve as an academic liaison for students to identify academic and career goals, select appropriate courses, and plan for degree attainment. Manages small to medium-sized, moderately complex projects.
Essential Functions
Duties: Responsible for delivering direct academic support services, in individual, group and classroom settings, to eligible students. Assist program manager with data tracking and entry, program development, grant compliance and student retention activities. Coordinate and supervise the TRIO SSS Peer Mentor Program.
Physical Effort
Little physical effort required. Duties are primarily sedentary. May be required to move objects up to 25 pounds occasionally.
