Job Description
Reports to Director. Responsibilities include optimum planning and treatment of the patient, including accurate simulation and application of ionizing radiation to the patient, in accordance with the instructions of the Radiation Oncologist, and listening and caring for the patient. Monitors and reports patient side-effects.

Simulation:
- Reviews patient(s) electronic chart and communicate with physician about orders for treatment to develop appropriate treatment position and immobilization devices.
- Properly prepares Simulation room or CT room to perform simulation procedure and alert proper personnel i.e.; Clinical Dosimetrist and Radiation Oncologist.
- Navigates through the CT Simulator applications to properly export scan to the Eclipse treatment planning system or GE Advantage workstation or PACS system.
- Prepares proper electronic documentation for simulation procedure.
- Properly schedules and informs patient of treatment start date and daily treatment time.
- Creates reliable and reproducible set-ups with accurate markings.
- Performs Respiratory Gating procedure as needed.
Therapeutic Procedures:
- Delivers radiation as prescribed by Radiation Oncologist.
- Navigates through all Aria applications to ensure radiation dosage and treatment parameters are documented accurately.
- Performs procedures ordered by Radiation Oncologist i.e.: fabricating custom bolus, blocking devices and oral appliances, shielding device placement, and applying permanent marks.
- Fluently operates On-Board-Imager (OBI) when prescribed by Radiation Oncologist.
- Sets up patient accurately using permanent marks, marks on custom devices and/or IGRT.
- Schedules, acquires, and retrieves weekly patient portal images utilizing the appropriate Aria modules.
- On patients first treatment/film day, reviews chart and shift sheets and verifies congruence with Aria electronic record.
- Properly prepares chart in ARIA for delivery of first treatment.
- Completes proper documentation for billing purposes.
Communication:
- Effectively communicates to patient, the simulator procedure, treatment regime, and scheduling.
- Contacts appropriate personnel if discrepancies are noted or issues arise with the patient's electronic chart (Aria).

- Consistently reviews patients charts for accurate documentation in preparation for Weekly Chart Rounds.
Leadership:
- Develops and maintains professional relationships with all ROC personnel.
- Acts as facilitator for the Weekly Chart Rounds meeting.
- Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department
- Completes other job-related duties and projects as assigned.
Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:
- Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
- Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
- Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
- Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
- Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
- Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
- Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
- Complies with established organization and department policies.
- Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education and Experience:
The knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of an Associate's Degree or Professional Training. Registration in good standing by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or ARRT eligible is required. State Certification required. Must maintain current CPR certification. Up to 1 year experience is required. Clinical training in radiation treatment and simulation is required.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Ability to hear patient over intercom.
- Ability to hear difference in machine noises.
- Working knowledge of radiation treatment, simulation and block cutting.
Working Conditions:
- Potential eye strain from using CRT screens is possible.
- Normal patient environment with little exposure to excessive dust, noise, temperature and the like.
- Possible exposure to radiation with little or no chance of injury when established safety procedures are followed.
Physical Demands:
Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e. to walk/stand for prolonged periods of time, push carts/wheelchairs up to 50 pounds, to position/lift patients at a maximum of 35 pounds unassisted, over 35 pounds requires assistance, provide CPR, etc.) to perform the essential functions of the position.
