Residential Sanitation Driver Operator at City of Foley – Foley, Alabama

Under general supervision, this position operates residential garbage, recycling, and boom trucks that require a Commercial Driver’s license (CDL). Follows set sanitation routes and acts as a lead person to other employees working on the truck. Performs work in a highly structured environment with orderly established procedures and processes. Reports to the Sanitation Superintendent.
Essential Functions

• Drives and operates garbage trucks/recycle trucks on designated routes and acts as a lead person to other employees while ensuring their safety.
• Drives and operates knuckle boom loader for the collection and removal of limbs, yard debris and other trash in a safe manner.
• Drives flatbed truck for the collection and removal of land fill and bulk item trash.
• Assembles and delivers new garbage cans and recycling bins.
• Receives and/or reviews information such as call tickets, written/spoken instructions, route schedule, maps, personnel info, and regulations.
• Prepares and generates information such as a log of addresses and can numbers, mosquito spray log, log of maintenance performed on trucks, and the street sweeping log.
• Refers to call tickets, written/spoken instructions, route schedules, maps, personnel policy, and related information and regulations.
• Interacts and communicates with a wide variety of groups and individuals to include the general public, co-workers, Department Heads, Supervisors, office staff, and landfill personnel.
• Operates a variety of machinery and/or equipment to include garbage trucks, recycle trucks, street sweeper, knuckle boom truck, mosquito trucks, flatbed trucks, and a Ford truck.
• Utilizes a variety of tool and/or sets of tools such as power drills, grease gun, pressure washer, air chucks, weed eaters, edger, and blowers.
• Greases ASL garbage and recycle trucks, rear-loading garbage and recycle trucks, and knuckle boom trucks.
• Assists other departments within the City of Foley during emergencies, special events, or other circumstances.

Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or its equivalent and one (1) year of experience in a job related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Special Qualifications:
Valid Class A or B CDL Driver’s License.
