Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace, Inc. in Johnstown, PA is seeking a highly skilled Senior Network Administrator to lead the design, implementation, security, and daily operation of our enterprise network infrastructure across multiple locations. This role plays a key part in ensuring reliable, secure, and compliant connectivity for systems that support our business operations and handle Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI).

As the organization’s technical lead for networking, you will collaborate closely with IT leadership and security teams to maintain a resilient environment aligned with NIST 800‑171 and CMMC requirements. This is an opportunity to shape and strengthen the network foundation of a growing defense organization while working on meaningful, high‑impact technology initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Network Architecture & Engineering
    • Design, implement, and maintain LAN/WAN infrastructure across multiple sites.
    • Manage routing, switching, firewalls, and VPN technologies.
    • Oversee site-to-site connectivity and redundancy strategies.
    • Lead network upgrades, expansions, and lifecycle management.
  • Network Security & Compliance
    • Implement and maintain secure network architectures aligned with NIST SP 800-171 and CMMC Level 2.
    • Configure and manage firewalls, IDS/IPS, and network segmentation.
    • Support secure enclaves for CUI environments. Partner with ISSO/ISSM to remediate vulnerabilities and support audits.
  • Cloud & Hybrid Networking
    • Manage networking in Microsoft environments including:
  • Azure Government (VNets, NSGs, routing)
  • Microsoft 365 GCC-High connectivity
  • Support hybrid identity and secure remote access solutions.
  • Monitoring & Incident Response
    • Monitor network performance and availability using enterprise tools
    • Integrate network logs into SIEM platforms such as Microsoft Sentinel.
    • Troubleshoot outages, latency issues, and security events.
    • Support incident response efforts related to network activity.
  • Operations & Support
    • Serve as escalation point for complex network issues.
    • Maintain documentation including network diagrams and configurations.
    • Ensure high availability and disaster recovery capabilities.
    • Support plant/facility IT needs at remote locations.

ANY ADDITIONAL, PERIODIC OR OCCASIONAL DUTIES:

  • Other duties as assigned by the IT Manager

EQUIPMENT USED IN JOB:

  • Computer, laptop and associated hardware and printers; Microsoft M365 Suite; Microsoft Azure.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Networking, or related field (or equivalent experience).

NUMBER OF YEARS AND TYPE OF EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • 5–10 years of network administration/engineering experience.

Strong experience with:

  • Routing & switching (Cisco, Aruba, or equivalent)
  • Firewalls (Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco ASA/Firepower, etc.)
  • VPN technologies (IPSec, SSL VPN)
  • Experience supporting multi-site environments.

MINIMUM LEARNING TIME FOR THIS POSITION PROVIDED EMPLOYEE HAS NECESSARY EXPERIENCE:

  • Basic tasks – 3 months
  • More advanced tasks that require Kongsberg specific knowledge – 6 months

OTHER POSITION CONSIDERATIONS:

  • Follow established confidentiality policy, safety standards, or applicable regulations.
  • Knowledge of customer service best practices. Organizational skills
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to travel for extended periods of time - (25% of year)
