What We’re Looking For:

Santé is seeking a Mobile Crisis Specialist Intern to join our team. MCT provides 24/7 community-based behavioral health crisis assessment, intervention, and stabilization services throughout Mecklenburg County. Team respond in the community to individuals experiencing mental health or substance use crises, with the goal of de-escalation, safety planning, connection to ongoing services, and reducing unnecessary hospitalizations, incarcerations, and emergency department utilization.

What You’ll Do:

● Effectively triage a call to the appropriate level of care.

● Maintain professional objectivity and calm demeanor.

● Perform a danger assessment, a crisis assessment, an environmental and lethality assessment upon entry to the community situation.

● Effectively perform brief crisis interventions including, but not limited to de-escalation, crisis planning and resource connections.

● Identify appropriate follow up tasks depending on the nature and severity of crisis.

● Provide appropriate referral recommendations using available community resources.

● Make critical decisions about the need for an emergency petition and/or alternative psychiatric evaluation.

● Share accurate clinical information to family and involved persons related to recommendations and possibilities for treatment.

● Complete necessary follow-up contacts as appropriate based on treatment plan.

● Collaborate with first responders, police, fire, and other community agencies within the crisis response system for comprehensive services.

● Consult and coordinate with other Santé staff to provide high quality, evidence-based services.

● Complete all required documentation according to agency, local, state, and federal regulatory policies, and procedures.

● Remain up to date on all required training.

● Provide education in the community about the agency and all components of MCT when needed.

● Utilize technology to navigate electronic health records, email, Microsoft Teams, and other tools in stationary and mobile environments.

● Other duties as assigned

What We Require:

  • Master's or bachelor's degree in a human service field with 1 year of experience in mental health.
