What You'll Do
As an Occupational Therapist, you'll partner with patients, families and an interdisciplinary healthcare team to help patients regain function and maximize independence.
Key responsibilities include:
- Evaluate and assess patients to determine occupational therapy needs.
- Develop individualized occupational therapy treatment plans based on referrals, evaluations and patient goals.
- Establish realistic, measurable goals designed to improve function and quality of life.
- Provide evidence-based occupational therapy treatments using appropriate procedures, equipment and techniques.
- Educate patients and caregivers about treatment plans, goals, expected outcomes and home programs.
- Provide guidance related to injury prevention and safe performance of daily activities.
- Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans when appropriate.
- Reevaluate patients and make recommendations regarding continued treatment and disposition.
- Accurately document evaluations, treatments and patient progress in the medical record.
- Collaborate and communicate with physicians, referral sources and other healthcare professionals.
- Lead or direct the activities of COTAs, therapy assistants, aides, volunteers and interns as appropriate.
- Participate in rehabilitation team meetings, staff meetings, orthopedic conferences and other collaborative care activities.
- Serve as a Clinical Instructor for therapy students when requested by departmental leadership.
What You'll Need
Education
- Bachelor's, Master's or Doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited occupational therapy program.
Licensure & Certification
- Current license to practice Occupational Therapy in Indiana, or demonstrated eligibility for Indiana licensure.
- Current BLS certification required.
Knowledge & Skills
Successful candidates will:
- Demonstrate competency using occupational therapy evaluation tools, modalities, exercise equipment, ADL aids and splinting/orthotic materials.
- Communicate effectively and compassionately with patients, families, healthcare professionals and hospital associates.
- Work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary rehabilitation team.
- Demonstrate a commitment to safe, high-quality and patient-centered care.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This position works in a patient-care environment and requires the physical ability and stamina necessary to perform essential Occupational Therapist functions, which may include prolonged sitting, standing and walking; pushing wheelchairs or carts; handling supplies; and assisting with lifting and transferring patients.
The role may require participation in weekday, weekend, additional-shift or overtime coverage based on department and patient-care needs.
