Job Description

The Plant Maintenance Lead is an hourly position and reports to the Maintenance Manager. The Plant Maintenance Lead is responsible for coordinating and supervising maintenance tasks, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of machinery and equipment, and providing technical expertise to the maintenance team. This role requires strong mechanical knowledge, leadership skills, and the ability to prioritize and execute maintenance activities effectively.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervised a team of maintenance mechanics, assigning tasks, and providing guidance to ensure the completion of maintenance activities.
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on various machinery and equipment to ensure they operate efficiently and safely.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in equipment and systems, minimizing downtime and production interruptions.
  • Investigate equipment malfunctions and identify root causes. Develop and implement solutions to prevent recurring issues.
  • Ensure that all maintenance activities comply with safety regulations and company policies. Conduct safety training and promote a culture of safety among team members.
  • Manage and monitor spare parts and equipment inventory, ensuring availability of necessary components for repairs and maintenance.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, equipment manuals, and maintenance logs.
  • Assist in budget planning and control for maintenance-related expenses. Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality standards.
  • Train and mentor maintenance team members on best practices, safety protocols, and technical skills development.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and contractors for equipment servicing, repairs, and parts procurement. Negotiate contracts and ensure quality service.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency enhancements in maintenance procedures.

Required Qualifications:

  • PLC, HVAC, Ammonia, Refrigeration, or other specialty certifications required.
  • Two-year certificate from college or technical school; or five years related experience and/or training in manufacturing equipment maintenance and repair; or equivalent combination of continued education and experience.
  • English is the primary language skill; however, bilingual skills may be beneficial based on business necessity.
  • Proven experience as a maintenance mechanic, with expertise in troubleshooting and repairing industrial equipment.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Proficiency in using hand and power tools, as well as diagnostic equipment.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) is advantageous.
  • Minimum age: 18
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen and physical.

Physical Demand/Working Conditions:

  • Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Exposure to nut allergens.
  • Must be able to frequently stand, walk, kneel, reach, climb, pull, and bend with a full range of body motion.
  • Must be able to routinely lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in an office environment, extended periods in a cold, damp, and hot environment.
  • Must be able to work in variable weather conditions.
