Development Consultant

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Development Consultant based in Switzerland.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced fundraising professional to support a mission-driven organization during a period of strategic growth. In this consultancy role, you will play a key part in expanding funding opportunities across Europe by identifying, cultivating, and securing support from institutional donors, foundations, corporations, and high-net-worth individuals. Working closely with senior leadership and development teams, you will help build a sustainable donor pipeline and strengthen long-term funding relationships. The position offers a high degree of autonomy, strategic influence, and international collaboration within a purpose-led environment focused on creating measurable social impact. Ideal for professionals with strong grant-writing and donor engagement expertise, this role combines relationship management, business development, and fundraising strategy. The position is fully remote and available on either a part-time or full-time basis for an initial six-month engagement.

Accountabilities
  • Support fundraising and business development efforts by identifying, researching, and cultivating new funding opportunities across Europe.
  • Develop and execute strategies to secure annual and multi-year funding from government agencies, multilateral organizations, foundations, corporate partners, and high-net-worth individuals.
  • Build and manage a pipeline of prospective donors, maintaining detailed records of outreach activities, relationship status, and next steps.
  • Conduct funding landscape research to identify priority prospects, assess alignment, and recommend effective engagement strategies.
  • Develop high-quality fundraising materials, including letters of inquiry, concept notes, grant proposals, and donor communications.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with prospective funders through meetings, presentations, strategic outreach, and ongoing stewardship activities.
  • Collaborate closely with senior leadership to prepare for donor engagements, presentations, and follow-up discussions.
  • Track and report on fundraising progress, donor interactions, and pipeline development to support decision-making and future fundraising efforts.
  • Contribute recommendations that strengthen long-term fundraising strategies and expand donor engagement across the European market.
Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in fundraising, nonprofit development, grant writing, business development, or donor relations.
  • Proven track record of developing successful grant proposals, concept notes, donor reports, and funding applications.
  • Experience building, managing, and growing portfolios of institutional donors, foundations, corporate partners, or individual philanthropists.
  • Strong understanding of donor cultivation, stewardship, and relationship management practices.
  • Experience working with international donors and funding organizations, ideally within global development, agriculture, food security, or social impact sectors.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to create compelling fundraising narratives and proposals.
  • Strong research, analytical, and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
  • Experience using donor relationship management systems, preferably Raiser's Edge or similar fundraising databases.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and drive results in a remote environment.
  • Familiarity with West Africa, agricultural development, rural livelihoods, or international development programs is considered a strong advantage.
Benefits
  • Fully remote consultancy role based in Western Europe.
  • Flexible engagement structure with both part-time and full-time arrangements considered.
  • Six-month contract with the opportunity to contribute during a critical growth phase.
  • High-impact role with direct exposure to senior leadership and strategic fundraising initiatives.
  • Opportunity to build relationships with leading international donors, foundations, and funding institutions.
  • Collaborative and mission-driven work environment focused on social and economic development.
  • Significant autonomy and ownership over fundraising and donor engagement activities.
  • Opportunity to contribute to meaningful, measurable impact through sustainable development initiatives.
