Job Description

Position Summary

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and reliability of agricultural equipment, facilities, irrigation systems, and infrastructure. This position leads and works along with maintenance personnel, develops preventive maintenance programs, ensures compliance with safety regulations, and minimizes downtime to support efficient agricultural operations. The Maintenance Supervisor plays a critical role in maintaining productivity by ensuring all equipment and systems operate safely and effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintenance Operations

  • Supervise and coordinate daily maintenance activities for farm equipment, machinery, irrigation systems, buildings, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Schedule, assign, and monitor work orders to ensure timely completion of maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, irrigation, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment issues.
  • Oversee emergency repairs to minimize operational downtime.
  • Inspect equipment and facilities regularly to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns.

Preventive Maintenance

  • Develop, implement, and manage preventive maintenance programs.
  • Maintain accurate service records, maintenance logs, and equipment histories.
  • Monitor equipment performance and recommend improvements or replacements as needed.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities are completed according to manufacturer specifications and company standards.

Fleet Management

  • Oversee the maintenance, repair, inspection, and operational readiness of the company's fleet, including agricultural equipment, trucks, trailers, utility vehicles, forklifts, and other mobile assets.
  • Develop and manage preventive maintenance schedules for all fleet vehicles and equipment to maximize reliability and service life.
  • Monitor vehicle and equipment utilization, fuel consumption, maintenance costs, and replacement planning.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, vehicle registration requirements, licensing, inspections, and company transportation policies, as applicable.
  • Coordinate fleet repairs with internal technicians and external service providers to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain accurate records for vehicle maintenance, repairs, warranties, registrations, and regulatory inspections.
  • Track and manage fleet inventory, including tires, batteries, lubricants, and replacement parts.
  • Investigate vehicle incidents, equipment failures, and operational issues, implementing corrective and preventive actions.
  • Evaluate fleet performance and recommend equipment upgrades, replacements, or capital investments to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs.
  • Collaborate with operations teams to ensure adequate vehicle and equipment availability during planting, harvesting, transportation, and peak production periods.

Team Leadership

  • Supervise, train, mentor, and evaluate maintenance technicians and support personnel.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate staffing and work schedules to meet operational requirements.
  • Assist with recruiting, onboarding, and development of maintenance team members.

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce company safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and applicable environmental standards.
  • Conduct safety meetings, inspections, and training programs.
  • Investigate accidents, equipment failures, and safety incidents and implement corrective actions.

Inventory & Budget Management

  • Manage maintenance parts inventory and ensure adequate stock levels.
  • Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to procure parts, tools, and equipment.
  • Monitor maintenance expenses and assist in managing departmental budgets.
  • Evaluate vendor performance and negotiate service agreements when necessary.

Collaboration

  • Work closely with farm operations, production, and management teams to prioritize maintenance needs.
  • Support seasonal operations by ensuring equipment readiness during planting, cultivation, harvesting, and processing activities.
  • Participate in capital improvement projects and facility upgrades.

Qualifications:

Education

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical certification, associate degree, or vocational training in industrial maintenance, agricultural mechanics, diesel technology, or related field preferred.

Experience

  • 5+ years of maintenance experience in agriculture, manufacturing, industrial operations, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience maintaining agricultural equipment, irrigation systems, pumps, tractors, harvesters, and related machinery preferred.
  • Experience managing agricultural fleet operations, including tractors, heavy equipment, commercial vehicles, trailers, and specialized farm machinery.
  • Knowledge of fleet management software, telematics systems, GPS tracking, and maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Understanding of DOT compliance, driver safety programs, and transportation regulations is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong understanding of mechanical, irrigation, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance practices.
  • Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced agricultural environment.
  • Bilingual – English/Spanish

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and work around heavy equipment for extended periods.
  • Ability to respond to after-hours emergencies as needed.

Work Environment

  • Agricultural production facilities, farms, greenhouses, packing operations, and maintenance shops.
  • Exposure to dust, noise, chemicals, machinery, and varying environmental conditions.
  • Seasonal overtime and weekend work may be required during peak production periods.
