As a Direct Support Technician (DST), you’ll provide person-centered supports that promote independence, build life skills, foster community connections, and help individuals achieve their personal goals. What You’ll Do

As a Direct Support Technician, you will:
  • Provide person-centered support that respects each individual’s preferences, strengths, and goals.
  • Assist individuals in developing daily living, social, communication, and community participation skills.
  • Facilitate meaningful activities that promote independence, self-confidence, health, and wellness.
  • Support individuals during community outings, volunteer opportunities, recreational activities, and educational experiences.
  • Encourage individuals to make choices, advocate for themselves, and actively participate in their services.
  • Implement individualized service plans and document progress toward personal outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in accordance with Medicaid, DBHDS, and agency requirements.
  • Assist individuals with personal care and mobility as needed.
  • Promote a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment.
  • Collaborate with families, supervisors, clinicians, nurses, and other team members to ensure quality services.

Required Qualifications:
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Requires high school diploma or GED and any combination of education and experience equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education in client health/mental health care, developmental psychology, or a closely related field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: Requires a minimum of six months of related, full-time equivalent experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards. Must obtain CPR and First Aid certifications within 90 days. Employees serving the Intellectual Disabilities (ID) population must pass ID Orientation Workbook training within thirty days of hire. Depending on assignment, may be required to pass Medication Management Administration training within ninety days of hire.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to safely assist individuals with mobility and activities of daily living as needed.
  • Ability to pass required background checks and pre-employment screening.
  • Knowledge of person-centered planning, community integration, and positive behavior support.
  • CPR/First Aid certification or the ability to obtain certification upon hire.
