Messer Fort, PLLC is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Associate Attorney to work in the municipal and local government practice in our Austin office. M&F provides a wide range of professional legal services related to municipal government operations. Attorneys directly interface with the client, conduct legal research, prepare legal documents, and attend meetings of the governing body. This individual will provide legal advice and representation to clients in a variety of legal matters and requires excellent communication skills, a strong work ethic, and a passion for the law.

The position is for an energetic, self-motivated attorney licensed to practice in Texas and in good standing with the Texas Bar. This is a full-time position, and the attorney will practice primarily as a Municipal Court Prosecutor.

The Prosecution Section is responsible for the criminal prosecution of Class C misdemeanors and violations of municipal ordinances. Class C misdemeanors include traffic violations, assault, disorderly conduct, public intoxication, and theft, among others. Additional proceedings include administrative adjudications in the hearing officer’s court, parking appeals, stormwater proceedings, and bond forfeitures.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct legal research and analysis on a variety of legal issues
  • Draft legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and briefs
  • Represent clients in court proceedings, including hearings and trials
  • Negotiate settlements on behalf of clients
  • Communicate with clients and provide legal advice and guidance
  • Attend depositions and other legal proceedings
  • Manage a caseload and meet deadlines
Requirements:
  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
  • Admission to the state bar
  • 1-3 years of experience in a law firm or similar setting
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
