Duane Dean: Who We Are:

For over 50 years, Duane Dean Behavioral Health Center has provided substance use treatment, intervention and prevention services to adults who reside in Kankakee, Iroquois counties and throughout east-central Illinois. Working in collaboration with our management organization, Rincon Family Services, since 2017, we have expanded our services to include violence intervention, workforce development, mental health and welcome center services.

Position Description – What the Role Entails:

  • The Volunteer will support Duane Dean through meaningful participation in organizational activities, community programs, special projects, and day-to-day operations. Volunteers may assist in various departments and program areas based on organizational needs, interests, skills, availability, and volunteer opportunities.
  • This position is designed for individuals who are interested in giving their time, skills, and energy to support Duane Dean's mission and the communities we serve. Volunteers will work under the guidance and supervision of assigned staff and may assist with administrative activities, community programs, events, outreach, organizational projects, client and family services, or other department-specific responsibilities.
  • Volunteer opportunities may be available across a variety of departments and functions, including administrative support, Finance, Human Resources, community outreach, events, programs, and other areas depending on organizational needs and available opportunities.

Areas of Accountability - What You Will Be Doing

  • Assist staff with day-to-day activities and special projects.
  • Support community events, programs, and outreach activities.
  • Help prepare materials, organize supplies, and maintain work areas.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as filing, organizing documents, data entry, and preparing materials.
  • Provide a welcoming and respectful experience for clients, families, community members, and visitors.
  • Work cooperatively with staff and other volunteers.
  • Follow organizational policies and staff direction.
  • Maintain confidentiality and respect the privacy of clients and families.
  • Complete agreed-upon volunteer assignments and communicate schedule changes when necessary.
  • Arrive on time and fulfill agreed-upon volunteer commitments.
  • Notify the appropriate staff member as soon as possible regarding schedule changes or absences.
  • Follow staff direction and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate respect, dependability, accountability, and compassion.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries when interacting with clients, families, staff, and community members. (if applicable)
  • Complete required orientation, training, background screening, or other requirements applicable to the volunteer assignment.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Duane Dean's Work Environment – What to Expect

Volunteers may support various Duane Dean’s departments, programs, office locations, community settings, events, and other locations depending on the volunteer assignment.

The work environment may include administrative offices, program areas, community settings, and other locations relevant to the volunteer opportunity. Volunteers will receive appropriate guidance and supervision from assigned staff and are expected to maintain a professional, respectful, compassionate, and collaborative environment.

Schedule

  • Volunteer schedules may vary depending on department, program, event, and organizational needs.
  • Volunteer hours and availability will be established with the assigned Duane Dean staff member.
  • Volunteers are expected to communicate any schedule changes or absences as soon as possible.
