FireFighter/Medic in Michigan at Charter Township of Brownstown

The Firefighter/Paramedic performs skilled firefighting, emergency medical services, rescue operations, fi prevention, and public education activities. This position responds to a wide range of emergency and non­-emergency incidents, provides advanced life support (ALS) care, and participates in station duties, training, and community risk reduction efforts.

A. Emergency Response:

• Responds to fire alarms, medical emergencies, hazardous materials incidents, rescues, and other calls for service.
• Performs fire suppression activities including hose deployment, ladder operations, ventilation, and overhaul.
• Conducts search and rescue operations in hazardous environments.
• Operates fire apparatus and emergency vehicles as assigned.
• Utilizes specialized equipment including SCBA, thermal imaging cameras, and various rescue tools.

B. Emergency Medical Services:

• Provides Advanced Life Support (ALC) care in accordance with State of Michigan protocols and Health Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) medical control guidelines.
• Performs patient assessment, treatment, and transport.
• Administers medications and performs advanced procedures (e.g. airway management, IV/IO access, cardiac monitoring)
• Completes accurate and timely patient care reports.

C. Fire Prevention & Public Education:

• Serves as a liaison between the department and the community.
• Engages with the community to promote fire safety awareness and preparedness.
• Conducts fire prevention inspections.

D. Training & Professional Development:

• Participates in ongoing training, drills, and continuing education.
• Maintains required licenses, certifications, and all competencies.

E. Station & Equipment Maintenance

• Ensure proper maintenance and readiness of fire apparatus, equipment, and facilities.
• Maintains cleanliness and readiness of station facilities.
• Reports deficiencies and ensures equipment is in operational condition.

Education and Experience
•Minimum 18 years of age
•High school diploma or GED required
•Associate's degree in Fire Science, EMS or related field (preferred)

Certifications / Licenses (REQUIRED)
•Firefighter I & II certification (MFFTC)
•Paramedic License (National Registry or State of Michigan)
•Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
•Hazardous Materials Operations Level
•Valid State of Michigan Driver's License
