Position Summary
Atlantis Fire Protection (AFP) is seeking an experienced Controller to lead the accounting function at our Dallas office, including subsidiaries. This role is responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting, managing the month-end close process, coordinating annual audits, and providing strategic financial guidance to support the organization's growth and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Month-End Close & Financial Reporting
- Lead and manage the timely completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and preparation of related financial statements and MGMT reports
- Analyze financial results and provide variance analysis to leadership
- Manage intercompany transactions and account reconciliations across entities
Annual Audit Management
- Serve as primary liaison with external auditors: Coordinate and manage the annual audit process from planning through completion
- Prepare, audit schedules, documentation support, memos and respond to auditor inquiries, and delegate as able
Mergers & Acquisitions Integration
- Develop and execute integration plans for newly acquired companies
- Manage the transition of accounting operations and ensure continuity of financial reporting
Tax Compliance
- Ensure compliance with municipal, state and federal tax authorities in collaboration with external tax consultants
- Ensure general ledger and payroll information supports the general needs of the business from a tax perspective
Accounting Team Management
- Lead, develop, and mentor the accounting team
- Foster a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement
Cash Management & Treasury
- Oversee daily cash management operations and cash flow forecasting
- Manage banking relationships and coordinate with financial institutions
- Monitor working capital and optimize cash positioning across entities
Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable Oversight
- Oversee A/P and A/R functions to ensure timely and accurate processing
- Monitor aging reports and coordinate collection efforts as needed
- Review payment approvals and ensure compliance with company policies
Fixed Asset Management
- Maintain accurate fixed asset records and depreciation schedules
- Coordinate physical asset inventories and reconcile to accounting records
- Ensure proper accounting for asset acquisitions, disposals, and transfers
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Design, implement, and maintain effective internal control systems
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations
- Maintain proper documentation and audit trails for all financial transactions
- Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks
Accounting Systems & Process Improvement
- Oversee accounting software systems and evaluate technology needs
- Implement process improvements and automation to enhance efficiency
- Ensure data integrity and system security
- Coordinate with IT on system upgrades and integrations
Qualifications
Required
- CPA certification
- Minimum of 5-10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3-5 years in a supervisory or management role
- Audit background with experience collaborating with external tax advisors
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting
- Experience managing month-end close and annual audit processes
- Proven leadership and team management abilities
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities (i.e. pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and data analysis)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to interact professionally with customers and internal stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Willingness to travel to Operating Companies as needed
Preferred
- Experience in Fire and Life Safety Services or similar industry, High Acquisition Volume Environment
- Experience with M&A integration and multi-entity accounting
- Big 4 or national public accounting firm experience
- Proficiency in , SAGE Intacct ERP platform, minimum 2 years
