As a Hospice Volunteer Coordinator, you'll play an important role in developing and managing a meaningful volunteer program that supports hospice patients and their families.
You'll be responsible for recruiting, engaging, training, coordinating, and supporting volunteers who provide companionship, respite, emotional support, and practical assistance to patients and families throughout their end-of-life journey.
We're looking for someone who is compassionate, organized, community-minded, dependable, and enthusiastic about building relationships. The ideal candidate will be comfortable engaging with individuals and organizations throughout the community and will have a genuine passion for hospice care and supporting others.
This position requires the ability to travel throughout the assigned service area as needed.
What You'll DoResponsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- 🌿 Recruit & Develop Volunteers
- Develop and implement creative strategies to recruit and retain volunteers from the local community.
- Establish relationships with schools, churches, civic organizations, businesses, community groups, and other organizations to identify potential volunteers.
- Promote volunteer opportunities through community outreach, events, volunteer fairs, and other engagement opportunities.
- Communicate the value and impact of hospice volunteers and educate community members about the hospice philosophy.
- Build a diverse and engaged volunteer network aligned with the organization's mission and values.
- Conduct volunteer orientation and training programs covering hospice philosophy, patient and family support, communication, boundaries, confidentiality, and volunteer responsibilities.
- Ensure volunteers understand their roles, responsibilities, and expectations before beginning assignments.
- Provide ongoing guidance, encouragement, and support to volunteers.
- Maintain regular communication with volunteers and address questions, concerns, or challenges as they arise.
- Recognize and celebrate volunteer contributions and foster a positive volunteer experience.
- Match volunteers with patients and families based on their skills, interests, availability, and individual needs.
- Coordinate volunteer services such as companionship, respite support, emotional support, practical assistance, and other approved activities identified in the patient's plan of care.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary hospice team to identify appropriate volunteer opportunities and patient/family needs.
- Develop individualized volunteer support plans in collaboration with the care team.
- Help ensure volunteer involvement enhances the patient's quality of life while respecting dignity, privacy, preferences, and personal boundaries.
- Provide support and guidance to volunteers as they navigate the unique needs of patients and families receiving hospice care.
- Work closely with the interdisciplinary team to coordinate volunteer services and ensure alignment with the patient's plan of care.
- Communicate relevant observations, concerns, or changes involving patients and families to the appropriate members of the clinical team.
- Participate in team meetings and other activities as appropriate.
- Ensure volunteer activities remain within established organizational policies and the appropriate scope of the volunteer role.
- Partner with clinical and operational team members to strengthen the overall patient and family experience.
- Represent Cadre Hospice at community events, volunteer fairs, educational programs, and outreach activities.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community organizations and referral partners.
- Identify new opportunities to expand community awareness and volunteer participation.
- Educate community members about hospice philosophy, volunteer opportunities, and the importance of compassionate end-of-life support.
- Serve as an enthusiastic ambassador for Cadre Hospice and its mission.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of volunteer recruitment, orientation, training, assignments, service hours, and activities.
- Document volunteer involvement and patient interactions in accordance with organizational policies and applicable requirements.
- Monitor volunteer participation and engagement.
- Prepare reports and updates regarding volunteer program activities, outcomes, and accomplishments for leadership.
- Maintain required volunteer records and ensure documentation remains current and organized.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of one year of experience in volunteer management, community outreach, healthcare, hospice, nonprofit, or a related field preferred.
- Strong understanding of hospice philosophy, patient and family support, and the role of volunteers in end-of-life care.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
- Demonstrated ability to recruit, motivate, train, and support individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with community organizations and partners.
- Valid driver's license and current automobile insurance.
- Reliable transportation and ability to travel throughout the assigned service area.
- Ability to work independently while remaining connected to and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities, patient needs, and community opportunities.
