Job Description

Responsible for all aspects of nursing care delivery in the facility and clinic which result in patient and physician satisfaction. As a Registered Nurse, they will demonstrate professional nursing skills in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care from admission to discharge.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Provides nursing care to ensure the safety of the patient.
  • Directs and assists in carrying out safe aseptic & sterile techniques and procedures.
  • Perform various tasks as an OR circulator, scrub, preop/PACU RN, and clinic/triage RN.
  • Assumes responsibility that the OR is prepared for the patient and procedure.
  • Assist in transporting patient to O.R. and checks patient record for appropriate pre-op preparation and procedures.
  • Verifies that appropriate surgical prep is completed.
  • Completes documentation for O.R. records, laboratory requisitions, and patient chart including medications and physician orders.
  • Supervises and assists with the proper, safe positioning of the patient.
  • Performs sponge, needle, and instrument counts and documentation of
  • Takes ownership for all surgical specimens properly.
  • Provides assistance to teammates, surgeons, and anesthesia.
  • Coordinates flow of patients through the department.
  • Communicates intra- and inter-departmentally:
  • Cancellations and add-on cases
  • Patient/visitor/surgeon complaints or problems
  • Information necessary to promote safe continuity of care throughout patient’s stay in facility
  • Need for materials and supplies to ensure the operation of the recovery phase
  • Late start cases
  • Assists in the provision and control of supplies and equipment needed for optimal operation.
  • Assists in control of inventory, drugs, supplies and equipment
  • Assists in inventory management and control of narcotic substances
  • Maintains a record log of all area equipment, including maintenance and repair records
  • Supervises care and cleanliness of equipment, maintaining in good working order
  • Observes and communicates needs for new or different items in the department
  • Observes use and handling of supplies to decrease waste, mishandling, or incorrect methods and educates staff when necessary
  • Maintains a safe environment for patients and personnel
  • Ensures measures to provide safe and adequate care and transportation of patients
  • Monitors utilization and care of physical plant, supplies, and equipment to provide for cleanliness and operational ability at all times
  • Assists with scrubbing and supporting vascular and cardiology procedures including, but not limited to, angiograms, venograms, peripheral interventions, and endovascular procedures. Maintains sterile technique throughout procedures and demonstrates knowledge of vascular and cardiology procedural workflows.
  • Demonstrates competency with procedural supplies and equipment including wires, catheters, sheaths, balloons, stents, and contrast media. Anticipates physician needs during procedures and assists with efficient case flow while maintaining patient safety and procedural sterility.




QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate's degree in nursing required, a bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred
  • Current RN licensure in Colorado required
  • 2 years minimum cath lab, vascular, or cardiac nursing experience required
  • Successful completion of ACLS certification required
  • 2 years ASC experience, AAAHC familiarity preferred
  • Previous experience scrubbing in vascular and/or cardiology procedures preferred. Candidate should possess working knowledge of sterile field management, interventional supplies, wire and catheter handling skills, and procedural equipment utilized during angiographic and venographic procedures.
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced procedural environment while maintaining strong attention to detail, sterile technique, and patient safety.

Physical Requirements

This position requires full range of body motion. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk and stand for extended periods of time; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to handle or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 50 pounds. 

Work Environment

Work is performed in typical medical practice. It may occasionally be necessary to work beyond normal shift hours to meet the needs of the caseload and maintain other responsibilities. Staff members scheduled late in the day may call after hours for advice. It is a position of responsibility and accountability, requiring problem-solving and decision-making skills, and can be hectic and stressful.
