Job Description

About the Role:

Supports licensed physical therapists in delivering high-quality rehabilitative care to patients recovering from injury, surgery, or managing chronic conditions. This position involves implementing treatment plans designed by physical therapists, monitoring patient progress, and adjusting therapeutic activities as needed to optimize recovery outcomes. The PTA works closely with patients to encourage adherence to therapy regimens, ensuring safety and comfort throughout each session. Additionally, the role requires meticulous documentation of patient responses and communication with the healthcare team to facilitate coordinated care. Ultimately, the PTA contributes significantly to improving patients' mobility, reducing pain, and enhancing their overall quality of life through compassionate and skilled therapeutic interventions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program.
  • Current and valid state licensure or certification as a Physical Therapy Assistant.
  • Basic life support (BLS) certification.
  • Strong understanding of human anatomy, physiology, and therapeutic exercise principles.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients and healthcare team members.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in outpatient, inpatient, or rehabilitation settings.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
  • Additional certifications such as CPR or specialty therapy techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse patient populations including pediatric and geriatric patients.
  • Continuing education in advanced therapeutic modalities or patient care techniques.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist physical therapists in executing individualized treatment plans by guiding patients through therapeutic exercises and modalities.
  • Monitor and document patient progress, reporting any changes or concerns to the supervising physical therapist promptly.
  • Prepare treatment areas and equipment, ensuring a safe and clean environment for patient care.
  • Educate patients and their families on exercises, proper use of assistive devices, and strategies to prevent injury or re-injury.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare professionals to support comprehensive patient care and rehabilitation goals.

Skills:

The required skills enable the Physical Therapy Assistant to competently implement treatment plans and ensure patient safety during therapy sessions. Strong communication skills are essential for educating patients and collaborating with the healthcare team to optimize care. Knowledge of anatomy and therapeutic exercises allows the PTA to adapt interventions to individual patient needs effectively. Preferred skills such as EMR proficiency facilitate accurate and efficient documentation, enhancing continuity of care.
