Job Description

Junior Accountant/Xero Bookkeeper
Australian NGO

The Junior Accountant/Xero Bookkeeper will support our client’s group shared-services finance function across related commercial and charitable entities incorporated in Australia, the United States, and the Philippines.

This is a hands-on bookkeeping and accounting support role. The successful candidate will be responsible for day-to-day Xero bookkeeping, transaction processing, reconciliations, record keeping, and month-end support across a multi-entity and multi-currency group structure.

The role is suited to a capable bookkeeper or assistant accountant who is comfortable with bookkeeping as the core ongoing function of the role, while progressively supporting broader reporting, compliance, audit, and governance requirements.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions across multiple group entities in Xero.
  • Perform bank and credit card reconciliations across multiple entities and currencies.
  • Maintain accurate coding of transactions against the group chart of accounts, cost centres, and reporting categories.
  • Process payroll-related journals and superannuation entries in coordination with the Finance Manager.
  • Prepare intercompany loan reconciliations and end-of-month journal entries across group entities.
  • Support multi-currency reporting, including transaction translation, foreign currency balance schedules, and FX gain/loss tracking.
  • Assist with month-end close processes, including accruals, prepayments, balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Prepare draft management reports, variance summaries, and working papers for review by the Finance Manager/Controller.
  • Support BAS/GST preparation, statutory reporting, annual audit preparation, and not-for-profit/charity reporting obligations under supervision.
  • Maintain organised, audit-ready financial records and supporting documentation.
  • Identify and escalate transaction queries, reconciliation issues, compliance matters, and process improvement opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as reasonably required, consistent with the level and scope of the role.
Skills and Experience:
  • Tertiary qualification in accounting, finance, or a related discipline, or substantial progress toward one.
  • Practical accounting and/or bookkeeping experience, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations.
  • Practical working experience with Xero is essential.
  • Good Excel skills, including formulas and structured spreadsheets for reconciliations and reporting.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in transaction processing and financial record keeping.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while managing multiple entity workloads and deadlines.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with confidence liaising on coding, approvals, and transaction queries.
  • Exposure to Australian or US businesses, BAS/GST, payroll journals, month-end close, or external audit support is highly regarded.
  • Exposure to multi-entity accounting, intercompany reconciliations, foreign currency transactions, or not-for-profit/charity accounting is advantageous.
  • Working toward, or holding, a recognised accounting qualification such as CPA or CA is advantageous.
We’re Offering:
  • Full-time, permanent role supporting an international social enterprise group.
  • Permanent work-from-home arrangement, Philippines-based.
  • Target salary of PHP 55,000 to PHP 65,000 gross monthly, depending on skills and experience.
  • Opportunity to build a long-term role supporting a growing multi-entity group structure.
  • Standard ESC employment benefits, support, and onboarding.
