Job Description
St. John's Assisted Living is seeking a compassionate and dependable Care Attendant to provide quality care and support to residents while promoting dignity, independence, and quality of life. The primary responsibility of this position is meal service and dining operations, with additional responsibilities assisting residents with bathing, personal care, light housekeeping, and resident engagement. All duties are performed in accordance with Minnesota Assisted Living regulations, individualized service plans (ISPs), and facility policies.
Essential ResponsibilitiesPrimary Responsibilities – Dietary Services- Prepare the kitchen and dining areas for meal service.
- Serve breakfast and lunch to residents in a courteous and timely manner.
- Assist residents during meals as needed to promote safe and enjoyable dining experiences.
- Complete meal clean-up, dishwashing, sanitation, and waste removal.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and dining areas.
- Follow food safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures.
- Assist residents with bathing, dressing, grooming, personal hygiene, toileting, transfers, mobility, and other activities of daily living (ADLs).
- Encourage resident independence while providing compassionate, respectful, and person-centered care.
- Observe residents and promptly report changes in condition, behavior, mobility, or skin integrity to the nurse or supervisor.
- Provide companionship and emotional support to residents.
- Perform light housekeeping duties in resident apartments and common areas, including cleaning, laundry, and linen changes.
- Complete assigned documentation and follow directions from licensed nursing staff.
- Follow HIPAA, infection control, safety, and emergency procedures.
- Participate in required training, staff meetings, and continuing education.
- Work collaboratively with residents, families, and coworkers to provide exceptional resident-centered care.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Experience in food service, healthcare, assisted living, or caregiving is preferred but not required.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Compassionate, dependable, and committed to resident-centered care.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Successfully pass a Minnesota criminal background study.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequently bend, reach, lift, push, and pull.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with assistance.
- Ability to assist residents with transfers and mobility as needed.
- Ability to respond quickly during emergency situations.
- Residential assisted living environment.
- Exposure to healthcare-related conditions, including infectious diseases.
- Requires every-other-weekend and holiday rotation.
- Must maintain confidentiality and comply with all Minnesota Assisted Living regulations and HIPAA requirements.

Shift Schedule:
Hours: Approximately 72 hours per biweekly pay period
Shift: 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend required
Holiday Rotation: Every other rotating holiday
