Sr Principal, ServiceNow Developer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr Principal, ServiceNow Developer based in United States.

This senior-level role focuses on leading the design, development, and optimization of enterprise solutions across the ServiceNow ecosystem. The position plays a key role in shaping scalable ITSM solutions, including advanced capabilities such as Now Assist and AI-driven automation. You will work in a highly collaborative Agile environment, partnering with product owners, architects, and engineering teams to translate complex business needs into robust technical solutions. The role combines hands-on development with architectural influence, ensuring platform stability, performance, and continuous improvement. It offers strong visibility across mission-critical initiatives and requires deep technical expertise paired with strategic thinking. Accountabilities:
  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of ServiceNow solutions, including forms, workflows, catalog items, business rules, client scripts, and integrations within the platform.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including developers, product owners, Scrum Masters, and platform engineers to define and refine technical requirements.
  • Support Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, stand-ups, grooming, and retrospectives, ensuring high-quality and timely delivery of enhancements.
  • Drive adherence to platform governance, architecture standards, and ServiceNow best practices while supporting upgrades, patching, and deployments.
  • Develop and optimize AI-enabled capabilities, including Now Assist and prompt engineering use cases, to enhance automation and user experience.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve complex technical issues across ITSM modules and custom applications.
Requirements:
  • 8+ years of overall software engineering experience, including 12+ years of hands-on ServiceNow development in ITSM environments.
  • Strong expertise in ServiceNow architecture, platform capabilities, and end-to-end solution design.
  • Proven experience building and configuring workflows, UI policies, client scripts, integrations, and custom applications.
  • At least 3 years of experience with AI-related capabilities such as prompt engineering and Now Assist or agentic AI solutions.
  • ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA) or ability to obtain certification within 90 days; additional certifications (CIS-ITSM, CAD, ITIL v4) strongly preferred.
  • Solid experience working in Agile/Scrum environments with strong analytical, troubleshooting, and debugging skills.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder collaboration abilities.
