About the Role
Spyder Construction is looking for a Project Engineer to work directly alongside a Project Director, taking on the estimating, administrative, and field support work that keeps high-value projects moving without gaps. This is not a rotating junior role and it is not a stepping stone to Project Director. It is a dedicated, long-term position built around precision, follow-through, and becoming a trusted right hand who a Project Director can hand work to without having to check it twice.
What You Will Own
- Set up and maintain job folders, subcontractor quote folders, and plan sets so every project has a clean, accurate paper trail from day one
- Build CSIs from estimates and keep budget worksheets, billing requests, and change order drafts accurate and current
- Draft proposals to a near final state, including grammar, layout, inclusions, exclusions, and assumptions, so review is a final check rather than a rework
- Manage new job intake, communication plans, and production setup, keeping every project system, including Project Mark, accurate and up to date
- As the role matures, walk fires, floods, and capital improvement projects, take field notes and measurements, manage sub lists and bid invites, and eventually run bid reviews and punch walks independently
What You Bring
Must-haves:
- General construction knowledge, including the ability to read plans and communicate scope credibly with subcontractors
- Sharp attention to detail. Scope letters, CSIs, and proposals need to be right the first time, every time
- Strong organizational systems and the discipline to manage multiple active projects without letting anything slip
- Sound judgment on what is genuinely urgent versus what can wait, especially around bid deadlines
- A methodical, fast learner who retains direction the first time it is given and doesn't need to be told twice
Nice-to-haves:
- Prior exposure to Xactimate or similar estimating software
- Experience with construction project management systems
This role rewards someone who finds satisfaction in getting the details exactly right and building a system nobody has to double-check. If you need constant variety, thrive on fast-paced improvisation, or want a fast track to a director title, this likely is not the right fit, and that is fine. We would rather you find that out now than six months in.
The Work Itself
This is a full-time, in-office position, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. As you grow into the role, you will spend time out of the office on job walks with your Project Director, including active fire, flood, and capital improvement sites, so a willingness to get out from behind the desk when the work calls for it matters.
Why Spyder
Spyder Construction serves commercial properties, multifamily buildings, and HOA communities across insurance restoration, reconstruction, and roofing. This role is where Own the Outcome shows up in the details: a scope letter with no gaps, a proposal that needs no rework, a system that stays accurate because someone owns it. Deliver Consistently is built into the standard here. Documentation is right every time, not just when someone is watching. You will Forge Real Relationships with the Project Director you support, and over time, with the subs and clients you start managing directly. And Stay Gritty Keep Growing is the whole arc of this role. It is designed to take you from shadowing and note taking to running bids start to finish over the course of a year.
Compensation & Benefits
PAY RANGE: $90k to $125k per year
Spyder offers company paid life insurance and a steady, predictable path forward, alongside health, dental, and vision insurance and a 401(k) with a 4% company match. You also get paid time off and sick leave, optional accident and critical illness coverage, and access to an employee assistance program.

After you apply, you will receive a short survey by email. It only takes a few minutes and is the first step in our process.
