Job Description

We’re looking for a compassionate Director of Patient Care Services (DPCS) to provide clinical management and oversight of all patient care services provided by Ridgecrest Regional Hospital Hospice. In this role, you’ll help ensure the delivery of high-quality, compassionate, patient-centered hospice care, supervise clinical staff, and ensure compliance with federal and California state regulatory requirements governing hospice clinical operations.

Patient Care & Treatment

Provide clinical leadership and oversight for hospice patient care services, with a focus on high-quality, compassionate, patient-centered care. The DPCS must possess documented background knowledge and clinical expertise specific to the hospice patient population and demonstrate the ability to drive clinical decisions, address immediate patient needs, and participate in Quality Management reviews.

Collaborative Teamwork

This role involves supervising clinical staff and working closely with the hospice team to deliver effective, patient-focused services while contributing to a supportive and collaborative work environment.

Qualifications

  • Current, active, unencumbered California Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) is mandatory.

  • An RN license is required for this position without exception. No other professional license, including LCSW, PT, OT, or other license, satisfies the DPCS qualification requirement under CA Title 22 §74703.

  • Candidates must meet the RN licensure requirement and qualify under one of the following two tracks:

  • Track 1 — Degree + 3 Years Experience: Baccalaureate (BSN) or higher degree in nursing or another health-related field; three (3) years of experience within the last five (5) years working in a home health agency, hospice, primary care clinic, or health facility; and at least one (1) year of that experience in a supervisory or administrative capacity.

  • Track 2 — No Formal Degree Required + 4 Years Experience: Four (4) years of experience within the last five (5) years working in a home health agency, hospice, primary care clinic, or health facility; and at least one (1) year of that experience in a supervisory or administrative capacity. An RN license remains mandatory; this track waives the degree requirement only.

  • Must possess documented background knowledge and clinical expertise specific to the hospice patient population.

  • Must demonstrate capability to drive clinical decisions, address immediate patient needs, and participate in Quality Management reviews (§74703).

  • No disciplinary action affecting a professional license, permit, or certification in any state within the past seven (7) years (CA Title 22 §74852(e)).

  • Satisfactory criminal background clearance per California Health and Safety Code.

  • Written appointment by the Hospice Administrator required prior to assuming the role.

  • Must disclose in writing all other hospice or health agencies where the individual concurrently serves in any management capacity (CA Title 22 §74852(c)).

  • CDPH will verify license status and may contact prior employers before granting formal designation.

  • Current BLS/CPR certification.

  • Valid California driver’s license and reliable personal transportation for patient home visits as required.

  • Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate effectively in the English language.

  • Must be able to put into practice Service Excellence skills with our patients, families, and coworkers.
