Role:
The Chief Lending Officer (CLO) is a key executive leader responsible for the strategic direction, performance, and oversight of Soarion Credit Union's lending and credit solutions functions. This role provides leadership across consumer, mortgage, commercial lending, loan servicing, collections, loss mitigation, and asset recovery operations, ensuring alignment with the credit union's business objectives, risk appetite, and member service standards.
The CLO is responsible for driving portfolio growth, maintaining asset quality, minimizing credit losses, ensuring regulatory compliance, and enhancing operational effectiveness across the credit lifecycle. Through the leadership of department managers, the CLO oversees lending origination, portfolio performance, collections, bankruptcy administration, negative share management, charge-off recovery, and collateral disposition activities while fostering innovation, operational excellence, and superior member experience
Work Location:
This is an onsite position. Occasional remote work may be available for select positions and is subject to prior approval by management.
What you will be doing:
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute lending, servicing, collections, and recovery strategies aligned with organizational goals.
- Establish performance expectations, risk tolerances, and portfolio objectives.
- Drive initiatives that optimize loan portfolio performance and minimize credit losses.
Operations & Portfolio Management
- Oversee consumer, mortgage, commercial lending, loan servicing, collections, and loss mitigation operations.
- Monitor portfolio performance, delinquency trends, charge-offs, recoveries, and operational metrics.
- Implement processes and systems that enhance efficiency, compliance, and member satisfaction.
- Ensure effective controls and procedures for collections, asset recovery, and loan servicing activities.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead and develop managers across lending, servicing, collections, and recovery functions.
- Analyze productivity, portfolio, and operational data to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Monitor loan documentation accuracy, timeliness, and overall process effectiveness.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with all federal and state lending regulations and internal policies.
- Oversee risk identification, monitoring, reporting, and mitigation across lending operations.
- Maintain knowledge of BSA, CIP, OFAC, SAR, CTR, and consumer protection requirements.
Reporting & Collaboration
- Prepare and present executive-level reports on portfolio performance, risk, and strategic initiatives.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to improve business performance and member experience.
- Support product development, lending innovation, and technology enhancements.
- Proven leadership experience in consumer, mortgage, commercial lending, loan servicing, and collections.
- Strong knowledge of lending regulations, compliance requirements, risk management, and portfolio analytics.
- Expertise in collections, loss mitigation, bankruptcies, repossessions, charge-offs, and recovery strategies.
- Exceptional strategic planning, communication, and team development skills.
- Proficiency with financial systems, loan processing platforms, and data analysis tools.
What you'll bring along:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5-10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in financial institution lending, loan servicing, collections, credit solutions, or related portfolio management functions, including consumer, mortgage, and commercial lending
- Minimum of two years of supervisory experience; executive management experience preferred.
- NMLS certification (must be maintained).
