Job Description

THE ROLE:

We are looking for a Shop Helper to join our team.

The Shop Helper is responsible for supporting daily shop operations by performing a variety of general tasks. Responsibilities include assisting with basic mechanical work, cleaning and organizing the shop, preparing parts through blasting and solvent cleaning, and helping with painting and handling of components. This role helps ensure the shop runs efficiently and maintains quality and safety standards.

PRIMARY ROLE RESPONSBILITIES:

  • Maintain a safe working environment and a commitment to safety excellence.
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with the safety policy, procedures, and instructions
  • Maintaining a clean and organized work area.
  • General mechanical helper participating in disassembly of rotating equipment.
  • Steam clean and solvent clean parts
  • Prep and paint parts with approved coatings (with proper training)
  • General shop cleanup
  • Prep shop equipment (balance machines, lathes, mills, etc.) for painting per RMS specifications
  • Fabrication and structural welding of fixturing and skids for shop use. Blast and paint fixturing and skids per RMS specifications.
  • Tack welding of balance weights for balance technician
  • Light mechanic work with supervision
  • Assist machinist with set ups or moving parts to and from machines.
  • Assist personnel with logistic issues.
  • Prepare and box parts for shipment.
  • Operate fork truck (Training will be provided)
  • Perform other duties as required

EXPERIENCE:

  • At least two years of experience working in an industrial or machine shop setting preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience with component assembly and dynamic balancing preferred

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited institution

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • The position may be based in RMS’s Mepco facility.
  • This is a full-time position, with a minimum expectation of 40 hours per week. Additional hours, including evenings or weekends, may be required based on project needs.
  • This position can be required to participate in the company random or customer specific drug and alcohol screening and background check.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug, alcohol test, and background check.
  • Ability to act professionally under stressful situations.
  • Able to understand, read, write and speak English.
  • Ability and willingness to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs. (with assistance), walk, climb, reach, kneel, crawl, and balance.
  • Must be able to use hands for assembling and tool usage
  • While performing the duties of this position the employee will be required to stand, sit, bend, and walk for significant portions of the shift
  • Must not have allergies or issues related to handling metals, including aluminum, copper, bronze, and steel.
  • Authorized to work in the United States
  • RMS Inc. may have government contracts that impose specific requirements on employees working on those projects. If an employee does not meet these requirements, they may be reassigned to a different location or be ineligible to work on certain assignments.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. While the work area may be described as generally clean, safe, and "not loud", there will be machining operations that generate moderate noise and metal particles.
