Starting Salary Range: $110,000 - $150,000 a year; depending on experience

Position Overview:

The Safety Manager supports a safe and healthy working environment by coordinating and monitoring construction safety programs and procedures. This role ensures alignment with University Mechanical Contractors (UMC) policies and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with the Safety Director to strengthen and maintain UMC’s culture of safety.
• Provide on-site safety oversight, conduct inspections, and offer guidance on UMC job sites.
• Contribute to planning for new projects, including safety start-up requirements.
• Support the development of work plans, job hazard analyses, and pre-task planning.
• Inspect safety equipment on-site and prior to deployment from the warehouse.
• Advise forepersons and crews on safety procedures and best practices.
• Maintain consistent communication with general contractor and owner safety representatives.
• Participate in general contractor safety meetings as needed.
• Respond promptly to incidents and provide on-site support.
• Assist with accident investigations and ensure timely completion and distribution of reports.
• Monitor and support employees on light duty assignments and provide updates to the Safety Director.
• Conduct and document weekly site safety inspections; track and report compliance.
• Report safety concerns and violations to supervisors for corrective action.
• Facilitate and occasionally lead weekly site safety meetings.
• Deliver and document site-specific safety training as required.
• Implement and manage site safety recognition and incentive programs.
• Oversee jobsite drug and alcohol testing for new employees and assist with random test notifications.
• Ensure site-specific Safety Data Sheet (SDS) files are current and accessible.
• Collect, review, and file subcontractor safety programs and compliance documentation.
• Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality as essential functions of the role.

Secondary Responsibilities:

• Support fleet management activities, including training, testing, and compliance monitoring.
• Periodically inspect jobsite fire extinguishers for compliance.
• Periodically inspect jobsite first aid kits to ensure adequate supplies.
• Submit monthly OSHA accident reports and maintain the OSHA 300 log.
• Prepare statistical reports and agendas for monthly safety meetings.
• Collect and file accident documentation, ensuring reports are distributed appropriately.
• Maintain accurate records of employee safety training certifications.

Preferred Education and Experience:

• High school diploma required; college degree preferred.
• Minimum of five years of relevant experience preferred.

Required Licensing and Other Certifications:

• Maintain a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
