Pinto Valley is an open-pit copper mine located at the west end of the historic Globe-Miami mining district of central Arizona, approximately 80 miles east of Phoenix. Pinto Valley has been in operation since 1972 and has produced more than four billion pounds of copper. Acquired by Capstone from BHP in 2013, the mine is fully permitted through 2039 and a study is underway to potentially extend the mine life through 2050.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Operations Support Boilermaker works as part of a team to safely and efficiently perform welding, fabrication, and related maintenance activities supporting mining and processing operations. The position requires sound judgment, self-direction, and the ability to perform assigned work while maintaining a strong focus on safety, equipment reliability, and production requirements.
The role supports Processing, Hydromet, Tailings, and Maintenance activities by performing welding and fabrication work to engineered drawings, maintaining fabricated systems, and assisting with repairs and maintenance of industrial processing equipment.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

• Safety & Compliance: Perform all work in compliance with Pinto Valley Mine standard operating procedures, MSHA standards, and applicable site safety requirements.
• Welding & Fabrication: Perform welding, cutting, fabrication, and fitting activities in accordance with engineered drawings and job requirements.
• Welding Qualifications: Successfully complete required 3G and 4G welding qualification tests.
• Layout & Fit-Up: Perform layout, fitting, measurement, and preparation of materials for welding and fabrication activities.
• Equipment Maintenance: Assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of fabricated systems and processing equipment.
• Material Compatibility: Apply basic knowledge of welding similar metals and appropriate welding techniques for assigned work.
• Grinding & Cutting: Perform grinding and oxygen cutting safely and effectively.
• Technical Knowledge: Apply basic knowledge of welding techniques, metallurgy, engineering requirements, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and industrial processing systems.
• Drawing Interpretation: Analyze engineering drawings and specifications and determine appropriate welding operations when procedural information is not available.
• Field Operations: Safely operate vehicles and communicate by radio when working in-pit or around mobile and fixed equipment.
• Safety Meetings: Actively participate in line-out meetings, safety meetings, and other required safety activities.
• Teamwork: Work effectively with Processing Technicians, Processing Operations, Tailings, Maintenance leadership, and other departments across Pinto Valley Mine.
• Contractor Coordination: Work directly with external contractors as required to support processing activities.
• Leadership & Accountability: Demonstrate professionalism and integrity, provide feedback and coaching, acknowledge positive behaviors, and support a safe and productive work environment.
• Training & Development: Learn and perform additional crafts and duties as required to support operational needs.
• Additional Duties: Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Required
• Demonstrated ability to weld and fabricate to engineered drawings.
• Successful completion of required 3G and 4G welding qualification tests.
• Welding and fabrication experience, including welding and cutting.
• Layout experience.
• Basic understanding of installation and maintenance of fabricated systems.
• Basic understanding of welding similar metals.
• Basic understanding of grinding and oxygen cutting.
• Basic understanding of welding techniques, metallurgy, and engineering requirements.
• Basic understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Basic understanding of industrial production and processing systems.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications and apply them to welding operations.
• Ability to learn and perform additional crafts as required.
• Knowledge of confined space procedures.
• Fall Protection training.
• Lock Out, Tag Out and Try Out (LOTO/TO) procedures.
• MSHA New Miner or Annual Refresher (AR) training, as applicable.
• Valid Arizona Driver's License.
• Ability to speak, comprehend, read, and write English.
• Ability to perform assigned tasks safely and effectively.

Preferred
• Additional welding certifications or qualifications.
• Experience in mining, mineral processing, Hydromet, or Tailings operations.
• Experience working around mobile and fixed processing equipment.
• Additional industrial maintenance or fabrication experience.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Work primarily in field and shop environments.
• Work around operating mobile and fixed processing equipment.
• Work in active processing, Hydromet, and Tailings areas as required.
• Work around welding fumes, dust, noise, heat, and other industrial conditions.
• Work at heights and in elevated work areas when required.
• Work in confined spaces when required and properly authorized.
• Operate vehicles and use radio communication when working in-pit or around equipment.
• Wear required personal protective equipment and follow site-specific access and work-area requirements.

All candidates will be required to complete a pre-employment medical exam, drug and alcohol test, and background check. All positions require a pre-placement physical examination to ensure candidates are 'fit for duty’. Additional training and/or testing may be required. Capstone maintains a drug and alcohol-free workplace.
