Position Summary

Position Description:
The UNM-Valencia Upward Bound Program providesacademic-based after school and summer programs for qualified students whoattend high school in Valencia County at Los Lunas High School, Valencia HighSchool, or Belen High School. This federally funded program is in its tenthyear of instruction and tutoring for first generation (college) and incomeeligible students who intend to graduate from college with a Bachelors Degree.The Upward Bound After School Tutors assist scheduling tutoring sessions, inthe development of academic and enrichment activities for the high schoolstudents who commit themselves to positive self-development, leadership, andlearning. Assistance ranges from working with students studying to understandbasic concepts in key subject areas, to those who are advanced in skills andare able to excel with their comprehension and use of the most challengingconcepts in person or virtual. This is a grant funded position that ends08/31/2027 and will be renewed annually based on availability of federal funding.The position is expected to expire on 08/31/2027.

Responsible for all Upward Bound equipment usedfor tutoring. Maintains a clean and comfortable study environment.

The current opening requires a work schedule of4 to 8 hours per week including traveling to one of the three High School sitesand availability on Mondays Fridays from 2pm- 4:30pm as well as someSaturdays at $15.00 per hour.

Located about 30 miles south of Albuquerque inrural Valencia County, the University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus is atwo-year branch campus of the University of New Mexico which functions as acommunity college in the region and is designated a Hispanic ServingInstitution. With an emphasis on teaching excellence, Valencia Campus offersacademic transfer programs, technical vocational programs, Adult BasicEducation, and Dual Credit High School/College courses to Valencia and SocorroCounties.

Applicants must be able to tutor a variety ofsubjects, especially high school math and sciences, be reliable, caring,responsible, and able to work with adolescents as an effective member of astaff team. Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, flexibility and anability to conduct professional and considerate interactions are required.Ability to collect and analyze tutoring data for reporting purposes. Priorexperience working with high school students in an academic setting.
