Job Description

Position Overview

3G Productions is seeking an experienced Internal Rigging Engineer to provide dedicated technical and pre-production support to the Rigging Department. This position will partner closely with the Rigging Director, Sales, Project Management, Operations, and warehouse teams to ensure rigging requirements are accurately translated from customer quotes, venue information, technical designs, and production plans into complete, executable pull sheets and rigging plans.

The Internal Rigging Engineer will review project information, identify missing or conflicting technical details, maintain accurate equipment requirements, and support the timely flow of information throughout the production process. This person will serve as an internal technical resource for rigging projects and help reduce downstream equipment, scheduling, safety, and communication issues.

This is an internal, pre-production-focused position and is not intended to provide regular on-site show execution.

General Tasks / Duties

Below is a general list of the tasks and duties:

  • Provide day-to-day technical and administrative support to the Rigging Director across active and upcoming projects.
  • Review rigging quotes, technical designs, venue information, production drawings, equipment lists, and other project documentation for completeness and accuracy.
  • Create, review, and maintain rigging pull sheets based on confirmed project requirements.
  • Monitor pull sheets throughout the pre-production process and make timely updates when project scope, equipment needs, venue conditions, or technical information changes.
  • Coordinate with Sales to obtain missing information and confirm that quoted rigging equipment and labor align with the technical needs of each project.
  • Identify discrepancies between quotes, drawings, rigging plans, pull sheets, and other project documentation before information is released to the warehouse.
  • Review rigging plots and technical drawings to verify equipment quantities, motor placement, truss configurations, control requirements, and other rigging details.
  • Assist with load calculations, equipment selection, and the development of safe and practical rigging plans.
  • Partner with Project Managers and Operations to ensure rigging requirements are clearly communicated and incorporated into the overall production plan.
  • Communicate pull-sheet changes and equipment requirements to rigging shop leads and other warehouse staff.
  • Identify equipment shortages, substitutions, and potential sub-rental needs and escalate them to the Rigging Director.
  • Use FLEX Rental Solutions to support equipment planning, inventory coordination, and pull-sheet management.
  • Assist with planning for motors, hoists, truss, controls, power distribution, cable management, rigging hardware, fall-protection equipment, and related systems.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to confirm venue restrictions, rigging points, structural limitations, weight restrictions, access requirements, and other project-specific considerations.
  • Support the development and maintenance of Rigging Department templates, standards, documentation, and workflows.
  • Serve as an internal technical resource for questions involving entertainment rigging systems, truss configurations, motors, controls, hardware, load distribution, and related equipment.
  • Assist with equipment quality-control processes and coordinate with the Rigging Director and warehouse teams regarding damaged, missing, expired, or service-related equipment.
  • Support the inspection, documentation, and tracking of rigging equipment in accordance with company procedures and applicable requirements.
  • Support the training and development of rigging technicians and other team members as needed.
  • Monitor multiple projects simultaneously and proactively communicate concerns that could affect equipment availability, warehouse preparation, safety, scheduling, or project execution.
  • Must be able to safely lift, carry, and move equipment weighing up to 100 pounds, utilizing team lifts and mechanical assistance when appropriate.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualification / Experience

  • Significant experience in entertainment rigging, technical production, or rigging engineering within the live events industry.
  • Strong working knowledge of motors, hoists, truss systems, rigging controls, hardware, power distribution, fall-protection equipment, and related rigging infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing technical documents and translating project requirements into accurate rigging equipment and production plans.
  • Experience reviewing or creating rigging plots, technical drawings, equipment layouts, and related project documentation.
  • Strong understanding of load distribution, motor placement, truss configurations, rigging hardware, equipment limitations, and safe rigging practices.
  • Experience completing or reviewing load calculations and identifying conditions that require additional engineering or structural review.
  • Experience creating or managing equipment pull sheets for live productions.
  • Strong understanding of the relationship between sales quotes, technical designs, equipment planning, warehouse preparation, and show execution.
  • Experience with FLEX Rental Solutions or a similar rental and inventory management system.
  • Experience with Vectorworks, Braceworks, AutoCAD, or similar drafting and rigging design software is preferred.
  • Knowledge of applicable entertainment rigging standards, inspection requirements, and workplace safety practices.
  • ETCP certification or other relevant rigging certification is preferred.
  • Strong technical troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and safety.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across Sales, Project Management, Operations, and warehouse teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Ability to identify missing information, follow up with the appropriate stakeholders, and escalate concerns before they affect downstream operations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Experience training or mentoring rigging technicians is a plus.

Schedule / Hours of Work

  • Variable schedule; weekdays during normal business hours, with after-hours and weekend work as needed.
