ELV Buyer in Wesport, Massachusetts at Mid-City Scrap, LLC.

The ELV Buyer is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing the acquisition of end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) from individuals, auto repair facilities, towing companies, insurance partners, salvage yards, and other suppliers. This position plays a critical role in growing the ELV business by developing strong vendor relationships, negotiating competitive purchase prices, coordinating vehicle pickups, and ensuring a steady flow of inventory to support operational and sales goals.

The ideal candidate is highly motivated, customer-focused, and skilled in sales, negotiation, and relationship management. The ELV Buyer serves as a key representative of the company and is expected to actively identify opportunities to expand the ELV supply network and increase market share.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct regular outreach to individuals, auto repair shops, dealerships, towing companies, body shops, fleet operators, municipalities, insurance companies, and salvage vendors.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective ELV suppliers.
• Identify and pursue new opportunities to grow the ELV purchasing program.
• Accurately enter purchase information into company systems.
• Evaluate and purchase end-of-life vehicles based on current market conditions, commodity values, transportation costs, and company profitability objectives.
• Negotiate purchase prices with suppliers to maximize margins while maintaining competitive market rates.
• Maintain knowledge of scrap metal, catalytic converter, and vehicle component values to support informed purchasing decisions.
• Schedule and coordinate timely vehicle pickups with suppliers and internal transportation personnel.
• Monitor vehicle collection activities to ensure timely service and positive customer experiences.
• Maintain accurate records of purchased vehicles and pickup statuses.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in sales, purchasing, procurement, automotive recycling, scrap recycling, logistics, or a related field preferred.
• Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills
• Ability to work independently and achieve purchasing and growth objectives.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and purchasing/database software.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Working Conditions

• Work is performed in an industrial environment with exposure to noise, dust and varying temperatures.
• Requires communicating effectively, standing, sitting, driving and lifting up to 25lbs.
• Use of personal protective equipment is mandatory.
