NC Pre-Apprentice: CNA I in Morehead City, North Carolina at Carteret Health Care

Our CNA I Pre-Apprenticeship Program offers Carteret County Public School seniors a unique, structured pathway from their High School CAPE Internship experience to CNA I certification and future careers in nursing or allied health fields. Developed in partnership with Carteret Community College, the paid program provides students with valuable education and work experience while covering program-related costs, including tuition, books, and uniforms.

Students begin the CNA I Pre-Apprenticeship during the spring semester of their senior year by completing the required classroom and clinical training. This preparation provides students with the knowledge, skills, and professional behaviors needed to work in a healthcare setting while introducing them to healthcare careers and the expectations, responsibilities, and opportunities within the profession.

Following high school graduation, students transition to the on-the-job training (OJT) component at Carteret Health Care, working a minimum of 12 hours per week during the summer. Under supervision, students apply their CNA I training in a patient care setting, gaining practical, hands-on experience and developing greater confidence in their skills.

The CNA I Pre-Apprenticeship provides a strong foundation for students interested in pursuing careers in nursing and other healthcare professions.

Academic Standing: Students must pass all required coursework and remain in good academic standing at Carteret Community College.
