Scientist I, Analytical Development – Solid Biosciences

Charlestown, MA

Solid Biosciences is a precision genetic medicine company focused on advancing a portfolio of gene therapy candidates targeting rare neuromuscular and cardiac diseases, including Duchenne muscular dystrophy (Duchenne), Friedreich’s ataxia (FA), catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (CPVT), TNNT2-mediated dilated cardiomyopathy, BAG3-mediated dilated cardiomyopathy, and additional fatal, genetic cardiac diseases. We are looking for an experienced Scientist I to support the Analytical Development team. This individual would be responsible for analytical cell-based assay development, qualification, and operational support for Solid’s (pre)clinical portfolio. This role will focus specifically on cell-based analytical assay development (with various read-out) and is expected to independently drive assay development with limited oversight.

Reporting to the Senior Scientist, Analytical Development, this is an on-site position based out of Solid’s headquarters in Charlestown, MA.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the design and implementation of cell-based and functional potency assays to support the Solid Biosciences gene therapy portfolio.
  • Support the development and execution of cell-based assays aligned with process development and cGMP manufacturing of Solid Biosciences’ lead candidates.
  • Contribute to laboratory operations, including routine and non-routine analytical testing, and coordinate activities with internal Process Development and Vector Core Manufacturing teams.
  • Author and review SOPs, technical reports, and regulatory documents to support development programs and submissions.
  • Manage laboratory equipment and inventory, and compile, analyze, and present data to support process development and cross-functional teams.
  • Maintain accurate and well-documented analytical records, including electronic laboratory notebooks.
  • Mentor, and train junior scientists in cell-based analytical method development as needed.
  • Perform additional duties and contribute to ad hoc projects as required.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in cell biology, biotechnology, or relevant field with 0-2+ years of relevant industry experience.
    • Or: MS with 4-6+ years of relevant experience.
  • Excellent communication, technical, and organizational skills are required.
  • Must be a team player and embrace an interactive team-based culture.
  • Strong understanding of basic cell biology, cellular pathways, and cell growth parameters.
  • Extensive hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture, cell line characterization, cell-based assay development, and cell banking required.
  • Proven ability to develop cell-based potency assays in an industrial environment, including MOA based assay design, development, implementation, and qualification using ICH Q2 guidelines.
  • Extensive experience with plate-based readouts (including ELISA, MSD and ICW)
  • Hands-on experience with relevant analytical / statistical software suites, e.g. PLA, JMP, Softmax Pro.
  • Self-motivator driven to deliver quality results within project timelines
  • Proven troubleshooting, problem solving and investigational skills.
  • Experience in developing potency assays and analysis of AAV or similar viral vectors preferred.
  • Familiar with Solid’s disease areas of interest (DMD, FA, CPVT, etc.) is preferred.

Compensation

The base compensation range for this role is: $125,000 – $140,000

Base salary offered is determined through an internal analysis utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.

Regular employees are eligible to receive both short-term and long-term incentives, including cash bonus and equity incentive opportunities, designed to reward individual performance and align incentives to Solid’s long term company performance.
