HOURS & SALARY: As-needed, variable hours, with a hiring range of $12.25 – $15.31 per hour depending on experience.

JOB SUMMARY

Substitute Shelvers work on an as-needed basis to support library operations. They shelve, organize, and inspect returned library materials, check in materials, work in the sort room, and participate in closing procedures to ensure library collections remain organized, accessible, and ready for the next patron.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Shelve library materials, straighten and read shelves to maintain accurate order, and remove damaged or worn items from circulation.
  2. Shift materials, request signage updates as needed, and complete closing procedures.
  3. Check in items using the sort system and conduct basic troubleshooting.
  4. Provide directions or refer patrons to the appropriate staff as needed.
  5. Maintain patron confidentiality in compliance with Wyoming state law.
  6. Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • At least 16-years old
  • Demonstrated ability to read
  • Demonstrated ability to file, or learn to file, alphabetically and numerically

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Accurate numerical and alphabetical filing skills.
  • Good time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to maintain a high volume and quantity of work.
  • Ability to learn a variety of software programs including word processing and integrated library systems.

WORK SCHEDULE

Work schedules for substitute employees are as needed and will include evenings and weekends. Employees must be available to work anytime the library is open.

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Ability to move or manipulate moderately heavy equipment, boxes, carts, files, and stacks of materials from one location to another.
