As our Materials Engineer, you will play a key role in developing the materials and components that enable GlassPoint's solar thermal technology to perform safely, reliably, and efficiently under demanding industrial conditions.
Working closely with Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, and Manufacturing Engineers, you'll combine scientific analysis with hands-on testing to evaluate materials, investigate failures, validate new concepts, and help develop the next generation of industrial-scale solar thermal systems.

You'll help solve complex engineering challenges, improve existing designs, evaluate innovative material solutions, and ensure our technology continues to deliver reliable renewable heat for some of the world's largest industrial companies.
What You'll Do
Develop Innovative Material Solutions
- Evaluate and select materials for structural and mechanical components used in industrial solar thermal plants.
- Develop new material concepts and identify opportunities to improve performance, durability, and cost.
- Perform techno-economic comparisons of alternative material solutions.
Test & Validate Performance
- Design, plan, and execute laboratory and full-scale material and component testing.
- Conduct material characterization and evaluate long-term behaviour under demanding environmental and operating conditions.
- Coordinate specialized testing with external laboratories where required.
Solve Engineering Challenges
- Investigate material failures and perform root cause analyses.
- Assess risks related to wear, corrosion, fatigue, creep, thermal loading, friction, and other failure mechanisms.
- Analyse test results and translate findings into practical engineering recommendations.
Collaborate & Innovate
- Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout product development.
- Support the development and validation of innovative structural solutions.
- Contribute to technical publications, industry conferences, and the continuous development of GlassPoint's testing capabilities.
Who You Are
You're curious, analytical, and enjoy combining scientific thinking with practical engineering. You thrive on solving complex technical challenges, turning data into decisions, and working collaboratively to develop innovative solutions that have real-world impact.
Ideally, you'll bring:
- A degree in Materials Engineering, Materials Science, or a related engineering discipline.
- Several years of experience in material testing, characterization, and validation.
- Hands-on experience using laboratory testing equipment such as universal testing machines, climate chambers, or similar equipment.
- Knowledge of metallic and polymeric materials used in industrial applications.
- Experience investigating material failures and performing root cause analyses.
- Familiarity with ASTM, ISO, EN, ASME, or comparable engineering standards.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, casting, extrusion, or heat treatment.
- Experience with sensors and measurement systems.
- Strong analytical thinking with a structured and independent approach to problem-solving.
- Excellent English communication skills.
It would be a plus if you also have:
- Experience using FEA software with nonlinear material models.
- Knowledge of reliability engineering.
- Experience with tribology, corrosion, fatigue, creep, or long-term material behaviour.
- German language skills.
