Job Description

Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Summary
We are seeking a strategic and detail driven Chief Financial Officer to lead the financial operations of both franchise and custom homebuilding divisions, while also overseeing corporate finance, risk management, and accounting policy. This role blends high level financial leadership with hands on management of compliance, forecasting, reporting, collections, risk management, and team development.
Candidates should bring strong GAAP expertise and construction experience, with proven effectiveness in corporate level accounting leadership. Experience in financial modeling, public accounting, and managing high performing finance teams is highly valued.

Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Lead and manage receivables and collections from franchisees, including royalties, marketing fees, and technology fees
• Establish and manage automated and manual systems for tracking payments and enforcing schedules
• Work with legal counsel to enforce financial agreements and manage delinquent accounts
• Design and enforce a standardized financial reporting framework for franchisees, including monthly profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and tax returns
• Conduct routine audits and variance analyses to monitor franchisee financial accuracy and performance
• Maintain and enforce compliance with the FTC Franchise Rule and ensure accurate financial representations in the Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD)
• Collaborate with legal and development teams to support compliant FDD filings and updates, including Item 19
• Act as an internal expert on franchise specific financial compliance and provide training to support teams as needed
• Ensure proper application of GAAP principles across all financial reporting, including revenue recognition, accrual accounting, and full disclosure
• Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures in line with evolving compliance and operational needs
• Oversee all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, payroll, tax compliance, and job costing
• Prepare tax schedules and corporate tax filings to ensure compliance and accuracy
• Coordinate annual audits and year end close activities with internal and external auditors
• Plan and manage budgeting and forecasting processes across departments and business lines
• Develop and maintain forecasting models, financial models, and consolidated dashboards
• Perform strategic analysis of financial results, trends, and overall business performance
• Provide leadership on funding strategies, including short and long term construction financing and capital planning
• Evaluate and mitigate organizational risk through insurance and compliance strategies
• Plan, track, and analyze cost to complete forecasts and profitability for construction projects
• Collaborate with project managers on budgets, updates, and change orders
• Ensure accurate coding of expenses and maintain clean general ledger and cost category structures
• Prepare and review financial statements, including cash flow reporting
• Standardize reporting processes and improve close and reporting efficiency
• Manage and optimize ERP and financial platforms, including QuickBooks, Sage 50, NetSuite, Xero, Buildertrend, CoConstruct, Procore, and BusyBusy
• Support leadership with long term financial strategy, expansion modeling, and business case development
• Hire, train, and retain high performing accounting and finance staff
• Foster a collaborative, accountable, and solutions oriented finance team culture
• Develop and enforce policies, practices, procedures, processes, rules, regulations, and standards

Skills and Competencies
• Expert knowledge of GAAP, FASB standards, and financial compliance
• Strong understanding of franchise and construction financial relationships
• Experience in risk assessment, insurance oversight, and corporate financial strategy
• Proficiency in budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and variance analysis
• Technical excellence in accounting systems and ERP implementation
• Strong tax compliance and financial reporting skills
• Proven effectiveness managing audit processes and year end close cycles
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• Demonstrated leadership ability with a commitment to staff development and process improvement
• High attention to detail with the ability to manage complex, multi entity financial structures
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and financial modeling tools

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
• Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• CPA required; MBA or additional certification (CGMA, CMA) preferred
• Minimum of ten years of accounting or finance experience, with at least five years in a managerial capacity
• Public accounting background strongly preferred
• Experience in both franchise systems and construction project environments
• Proven track record managing collections, audits, risk, and compliance
• Demonstrated ability to lead finance and accounting teams, develop procedures, and improve reporting systems
• Demonstrated success supporting strategic growth and capital planning

Preferred Experience
• Experience in franchise finance and accounting strongly preferred
• Financial oversight of franchise systems with 20 or more units, particularly during growth phases
• Multi unit franchise operations experience in food and beverage, retail, or service industries
• Hands on experience with custom residential construction job costing and project financials
• Cross functional collaboration with franchisors, franchisees, and legal and compliance teams

Work Environment
This role operates primarily in a corporate office and headquarters setting. Standard office hours are typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Depending on deadlines or operational priorities, weekend work may be required to support critical objectives and ensure timely execution of responsibilities. Occasional travel to franchise locations, construction sites, or industry events may be required, up to 25% of regularly scheduled work hours.
