National Access Director

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a National Access Director based in United States.

This role plays a critical part in preparing for the launch and potential urgent access of an investigational advanced cell therapy. You will lead market access engagement with national and regional payers across Commercial, Medicare, and VA segments. The position also partners closely with treatment centers and financial stakeholders to support reimbursement readiness, coverage decisions, prior authorizations, and single-case agreements. You will serve as a field expert on market access, reimbursement, trade policy, and patient assistance programs. Working cross-functionally in a fast-growing environment, you will help translate complex access requirements into practical pathways for patients and providers. This is an opportunity to influence the launch of an innovative therapy while addressing significant unmet needs for patients with life-threatening disease.

Accountabilities:
  • Support the successful launch and urgent post-approval access of the therapy by educating payer customers and treatment-center financial stakeholders on the product value proposition, approved information, reimbursement considerations, and available access resources.
  • Enable payer coverage assessments through appropriate pre-approval information exchanges and post-approval engagement with national and regional payers across Commercial, Medicare, and VA sectors.
  • Support the broader market access strategy by engaging Federal Payers and Medicare Fee-for-Service stakeholders and contributing to strategic market access priorities.
  • Educate payers on the urgent unmet need and provide appropriate resources and information to help establish viable coverage pathways before and after regulatory approval.
  • Identify appropriate payer stakeholders and collaborate with payer-facing colleagues to facilitate expedited review of relevant patient cases and support appropriate access pathways.
  • Provide approved product education and health-economic information to payer and provider stakeholders, clearly communicating the therapy’s value proposition and relevant reimbursement considerations.
  • Partner with treatment centers, payer relations teams, and other site-of-care stakeholders to build reimbursement confidence and address coverage, coding, and reimbursement questions following approval.
  • Prepare potential treatment centers to become reimbursement-ready by ensuring providers and payers have timely information regarding prior authorization requirements, coding, coverage policies, setting-of-care considerations, and potential single-case agreements.
  • Serve as the primary field resource for education on patient assistance programs at treatment sites and act as a field expert on market access issues related to trade policy.
  • Liaise with specialty distribution partners and other external stakeholders to support access objectives and provide a high-quality experience for sites of care.
  • Proactively communicate payer coverage criteria and relevant access updates to internal field teams and external site-of-care stakeholders.
  • Monitor payer, policy, and market trends, assess their implications, and contribute expertise to the broader US Value and Access team.
  • Operate in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and compliance requirements while building transparent, productive partnerships across cross-functional teams.
Requirements
  • A Bachelor’s degree is required; healthcare-related degrees or credentials are desirable.
  • At least 10 years of experience in biotechnology or pharmaceuticals is required, including a minimum of 5 years of direct experience with coverage and reimbursement dynamics for complex advanced therapies, such as cell therapy, gene therapy, or radioligand therapies.
  • Strong, established working relationships with national and regional payers managing medical and pharmacy benefit policies are required.
  • Deep knowledge of inpatient and outpatient reimbursement methodologies, healthcare economics, and the financial dynamics that influence hospital access is essential.
  • Experience with cell and gene therapy networks and payer Medical Director teams responsible for advanced therapy products is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Cell, Gene, or Stem Cell Transplant service lines and established relationships with financial key opinion leaders at healthcare institutions are highly desirable.
  • Experience with pharmacy and therapeutics committees and high-impact drug review processes within healthcare institutions is preferred.
  • Exceptional presentation and communication skills are required, with the executive presence and confidence to engage effectively with senior payer, provider, and institutional stakeholders.
  • Strong business acumen and healthcare administrative expertise are essential, together with the ability to understand complex reimbursement and access challenges.
  • The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while maintaining strong cross-functional relationships and contributing to site-of-care account planning is required.
  • A patient-centric mindset, collaborative approach, humility, innovative thinking, sound judgment, and strong relationship-building skills are important for success in this role.
  • The position requires domestic travel of up to 30% and the ability to work remotely within the United States.
Benefits
  • Competitive base salary of $200,000–$250,000 annually, with the actual offer depending on experience, education, location, and other relevant qualifications.
  • Eligibility for a bonus, commission, or incentive program in addition to base salary.
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage to support comprehensive health and wellbeing.
  • Access to voluntary benefits designed to provide additional flexibility in benefits selection.
  • A 401(k) retirement plan to support long-term financial planning.
  • A generous paid time off policy and paid company holidays.
  • Paid parental leave to support employees and their families.
  • Mental health and wellness programs supporting overall employee wellbeing.
