Job Description

Title - Safety Manager - Canada

Location = Burlington, On, L7L 6A4

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage all health, safety, and environmental related aspects in area of responsibility that includes all Canadian locations.
  • Build relationships with Location/Branch/District Leaders and Managers, support and coaches as required.
  • Supply a monthly report to Country Manager, District Managers and Region Safety Director detailing all safety incidents, safety violations and concerns.
  • Create, Implement, develop and follow-up on Country and Region safety policies, procedures as needed for Canada Area where Provincial laws are different from region policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that all safety related policies from Konecranes Global and regional, in effect in Canada, are harmonized and modified to meet Canadian and or Provincial laws, regulations, standards, etc.
  • Chair and guide the health and safety committee to meet legislative requirements in all Provinces.
  • Conduct/support safety meetings, safety audits, risk assessments and assistance as needed at customer sites, and other Konecranes workplaces on a frequent basis.
  • Create partnerships with key customer safety contacts and respond to all customer safety concerns and questions.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans; coordinate drills and emergency preparedness exercises; ensure appropriate emergency equipment and resources are available and serve as key resource during incidents requiring emergency response.
  • Help develop and deliver Health and Safety training programs; ensure all employees receive required regulatory and company safety training.
  • Help develop, monitor, and analyze Health and Safety KPIs, leveraging data to identify trends, emerging risks, and improvement opportunities, and advising leadership on potential impacts, mitigation strategies, and actions to enhance organizational safety performance.
  • Provide and support Health and Safety related information to responsible manager/person to assist in completing vendor pre-qualification questionnaires and packets.
  • Assist local management with creating and maintaining safety training records.
  • Lead all Incident safety investigations by working with the local Managers, HR, and the Regional legal Team in the preparation of injuries, and incident investigation reports, including Root Cause Analysis, Corrective Actions and follow up as needed. Where/when instructed, communicate with the customers about the findings.
  • Advise local management and Region Safety Director on statistics/trends.
  • Assist claims manager with gathering information from Branch Manager (FOM’s) with regards to claims reports as needed including early return to work of any injured employee.
  • Monitor, update and/or provide support to maintain a favourable safety grading with all third-party vendors/administrators.
  • Coordinate with the Group safety programs, policies and other Safety Managers to share best practices and participate in Group safety developments.

Qualifications

EDUCATION: College and or bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Industrial maintenance or technical degree. Safety degree and or certifications preferred.

Bilingualism in French and English is considered a strong asset.

EXPERIENCE: Min 5 years’ experience in occupational health and safety within an industrial or service environment. Thorough knowledge and understanding of Canadian Provincial and workers’ compensation legislation. Strong organizational skills.

Ability to travel 50% of the time within Canada. There may be some required travel to the USA.
