The Boulder Community Health Foundation seeks an experienced and relationship-driven Planned Giving Officer to create, build, lead and grow the Foundation’s planned giving program. This position is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors interested in legacy and deferred giving opportunities that support the long-term mission and priorities of Boulder Community Health.

The Planned Giving Officer will manage a portfolio of current and prospective donors with a primary focus on planned gifts, including bequests, beneficiary designations, blended gifts, gifts of appreciated assets, and other complex gift arrangements. This role works closely with donors, their families, financial advisors, attorneys, and BCH Foundation development staff to structure meaningful philanthropic commitments aligned with donor values and organizational priorities.

The ideal candidate will bring demonstrated success in philanthropy and significant, hands-on planned giving experience. This is a highly relational role requiring exceptional communication skills, discretion, strategic thinking, and technical knowledge of planned giving vehicles and estate planning principles. The organization also welcomes nontraditional candidates whose professional backgrounds align closely with the complexities of planned giving, including experience in financial planning, private banking, wealth management, trust and estate law, accounting, or related advisory fields. Individuals who have worked closely with high-net-worth clients, multigenerational wealth planning, charitable gift structures, or fiduciary and estate matters may offer valuable transferable expertise and relationship-management skills that would translate effectively to this role.

This is a hybrid position with a strong preference for a full-time candidate; however, part-time arrangements of approximately 20–30 hours per week will also be considered for the right individual. The role includes a combination of remote work, in-office collaboration, and in-person donor meetings and events throughout the Boulder County community.

Qualifications
•Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business, communications, finance, public administration, or related field preferred.
•Advanced training or certification in planned giving, charitable estate planning, or fundraising (CFRE, CAP®, CGPP, etc.) preferred.
•Knowledge of Colorado charitable giving and estate planning practices.
•Current Colorado Driver’s License is required.
•Expansive nonprofit fundraising experience required with a strong emphasis on planned giving, or comparable professional experience in financial planning, wealth management, private banking, trust and estate administration, tax or estate law, accounting, or related advisory fields that demonstrate transferable expertise in charitable planning, donor/client relationship management, and complex financial conversations.
•Working knowledge of estate planning principles, charitable gift vehicles, and applicable tax and IRS regulations related to deferred giving required.
•Experience managing donor portfolios, pipeline activity, and fundraising metrics required.
•Proficiency with donor database systems such as Raiser’s Edge or similar CRM platforms preferred.
•Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently in a hybrid work environment required.
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and virtual meeting platforms required.
•Strong understanding of Boulder philanthropic community preferred.

Responsibilities
Planned Giving Program Development & Strategy
•Lead the Foundation’s planned giving efforts with a strategic focus on creating, building, executing and expanding the organization’s legacy giving program currently named the “Heritage Society”.
•Develop and implement individualized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for planned giving prospects and donors.
•Create comprehensive donor plans that align donor passions, financial goals, and estate planning interests with Boulder Community Health Foundation priorities.
•Design and execute strategies to increase awareness and participation in planned giving opportunities among donors, patients, physicians, volunteers, and community supporters.
•Collaborate with President, Director of Development and Development Officer to integrate planned giving messaging into fundraising campaigns, donor communications, and stewardship initiatives.

Donor Portfolio Management
•Manage an assigned portfolio of planned giving donors and prospects, maintaining proactive and meaningful donor engagement.
•Conduct donor visits, virtual meetings, presentations, and outreach activities to qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward planned gift commitments.
•Respond to donor inquiries regarding estate gifts and planned giving opportunities with professionalism and confidentiality.
•Work collaboratively with donors’ attorneys, accountants, and financial advisors to facilitate complex gift arrangements.
•Manage additional donor portfolio responsibilities as assigned, including ongoing cultivation, stewardship, and relationship management activities.

Fundraising & Stewardship
•Secure planned gift commitments and blended gifts in support of BCH Foundation priorities.
•Steward existing legacy donors through personalized recognition, ongoing communication, planned giving events and engagement opportunities.
•Ensure accurate documentation, tracking, and acknowledgment of all planned gift intentions and realized gifts.
•Maintain current knowledge of trends, tax law updates, and best practices in charitable gift planning and health care philanthropy.

Administration & Collaboration
•Maintain accurate donor records, contact reports, proposals, and pipeline activity within the BCH Foundation CRM system.
•Prepare monthly activity and progress reports related to donor engagement, solicitations, and planned gift commitments.
•Collaborate closely with the Director of Development and development team to coordinate donor strategies and avoid duplication of outreach.
•Participate in BCH Foundation events, donor activities, and community engagement opportunities as needed.
•Support additional development initiatives and special projects as assigned.
