Join us in an exciting time at our new facility in Milton, Wisconsin! S&S Transport was founded in Grand Forks, North Dakota in 1981, and in 2018 we added our Janesville, Wisconsin warehouse and office. We just opened our new facility in Milton last year, which includes a brand new shop. We currently have 150 trucks in our fleet and are steadily growing.

We are looking to hire a Trailer Mechanic. Primary duties include working on Semi trailers. Must have own tools. Pay is based on experience.

Job Summary

If you are skilled with your hands and passionate about teamwork, you will be an excellent fit as a truck mechanic at our shop that prides itself on outstanding customer service, accurate workmanship, and willing up for hard work. We are looking for the right candidate who will help us achieve our goal of company growth. As a member of our team, you will get to interact with drivers to figure out what they need, put your mechanical skills to use and repair trucks and various types of trailers. This is an exceptional position for someone with a positive attitude, excellent technical skills, and the desire to succeed. You will work directly with our Shop Foreman, Service Writers, Parts Manager, and the Fleet Maintenance Manager.

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance on trailers, to ensure that they are safe for the road.
  • Inspect various parts of trucks and trailers, including brake systems, wheel bearings and steering mechanisms to ensure they are in the proper condition to operate effectively
  • Use different tools and equipment, such as pressure gauges, pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, screwdrivers, hoists, and jacks, to repair trucks while constantly utilizing safety precautions
  • Diagnose malfunctions in defective equipment by inspecting and testing using devises such as motor analyzers, handheld computers, and chassis charts to determine how to address problems
  • Test drive vehicles to ensure they are running properly and to find issues to determine what the solution will be
  • Replace parts, bearings, and gears as needed and repair vehicle cooling and heating systems
  • Measure vehicle emissions to ensure they are in the proper limits
  • Ensure parts conform to factory specifications by inspecting and verifying clearances and dimensions
  • Must own and maintain basic hand tools

Required Job Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must have basic mechanic abilities and knowledge of basic tools
  • Must be able to lift heavy equipment and parts regularly
  • Excellent customer service skills, the ability to communicate professional with clients and support staff
  • Must be comfortable with working in awkward positions or cramped spaces
  • Must be willing to learn our systems and practices
  • We are willing to train the right individual who is mechanically inclined

Preferred

  • Technical certification or degree
  • 2+ years experience in diesel mechanics
  • Welding/Fabricating Experience
  • Automotive/Shop Experience
  • CDL/Truck Driving Experience
  • Truck tire/Alignment
  • Previous experience as a mechanic
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
