As an Associate Medical Director (AMD), you will function as dyad partner to the Director of Primary Care Operations. The AMD will facilitate the development and implementation of operational programs and initiatives for CenterWell/The Villages under the direction of the Market Chief Medical Officer (CMO). In this role, the AMD will participate in care management, utilization review, quality improvement, and related policy and practice initiatives. This position oversees clinical operations, quality, and care management, ensuring that appropriate care levels are being administered as well as develops/oversees utilization management programs. The role also involves leading and mentoring teams, collaborating with medical staff, and staying current on regulations and guidelines. This role is accountable for advancing Value-Based Care (VBC) strategies by optimizing clinical quality, patient outcomes, and total cost of care across the population.

Associate Medical Director Role Overview:
  1. Leadership and Organizational Management:
    • Identify and monitor clinical risks that could otherwise impact the organization financially or operationally, through collaboration with Care Center Medical Directors and clinical operations and under the direction of the Market CMO.
    • With Care Center Medical Director and Primary Care Operations collaborate, review, support, and improve primary care clinician performance through understanding of individual care team context, effective use of data, and effective coaching to support the clinician and care teams.
    • Identify critical issues for high-risk patients during case reviews, in monthly clinical meetings with the Market CMO, Medical Directors, Care Center Managers, Operations, and Care Team Providers.
    • Participate in direct patient care as needed to support the clinics.
    • Familiarity with clinical performance dashboards and data tools to support performance analysis, outcomes focus, and targeted strategy development in collaboration with Care Center Medical Directors and Primary Care Operations.
    • Serves as designated Medical Director for Population Health programs.
    • Interview, hire, and supervise clinical teams to staff and develop a high-quality clinical team with strong engagement, patient-first culture, and talent retention.
  2. Quality/HEDIS/STARS:
    • The AMD manages the Director of Quality and Care Management providing assessment, guidance, and leadership to ensure performance expectations are met in support of organizational goals.
    • Serves as clinical lead and provides clinical representation on the Quality Committee.
    • Works closely with Director of Quality and Care Management, Primary Care Operations, and clinical Care Teams to improve team-based key performance indicators, patient experience, clinical quality via HEDIS, meeting local and organizational goals.
    • Supports clinical quality performance improvement in areas such as MRA, STARS, total cost of care to include prevention of unnecessary utilization through provider education and coaching.
    • Periodically review clinician charts to identify opportunities in care, ensuring clinical assessments are accurate and that performance improvement and coaching initiatives are precise.
    • Spend time on direct patient care as per center needs, with remaining time dedicated to administrative responsibilities. The percentage of time may vary by market needs and by staffing levels throughout the year.
  3. Dyad Partnership:
    • Dyad with Director of Primary Care Operations and collaborate with other operational leaders, shared services partners to align on clinical and operational goals, strategic planning, and budgeting.
    • Maintains regular communication to align performance, strategies, and team communication, ensuring unified decision making and consistent messaging for cohesive leadership.
    • Works together toward common goals that support the mission, vision, and values and overall patient experience outcomes.
    • Partner on strategic and operational insights, including capital and operational budgeting, and monitor clinical & financial performance and metrics.
    • Review clinician schedules and incentive plans to align with patient care access and management goals.
  4. Conducts regularly scheduled one-on-one meetings with direct reports to review overall performance and discuss any concerns and/or new ideas/opportunities for performance or operational improvements.
  5. Direct supervision of Director of Clinical Shared Services and Manager of Population Health.
  6. Conducts annual performance evaluations for all direct reports.
  7. Completes other duties as assigned by the Market Chief Medical Officer.

Required Qualifications:
  1. Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
  2. Board certification in a relevant specialty.
  3. Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience, preferably in a leadership role.
  4. Licensed to practice medicine in the state of Florida.
Scheduled Working hours:
Monday to Friday
Scheduled 40 hours per week
