You will analyze work-related fatality, catastrophe, and severe injury or illness records, draft brief incident narratives, and assign case characteristic codes for each using the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Occupational Injury and Illness Classification System (OIICS).
This position is available part-time (minimum 20 hours/week) or full-time, is fully remote, and includes daily collaboration with a supportive analyst team using Microsoft Teams.
- Review workplace injury, illness, and fatality records and apply standardized caseclassification codes using the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Occupational Injury and Illness Classification System (OIICS).
- Exercise thoughtful, independent judgment to accurately classify complex or ambiguous cases while maintaining speed and consistency.
- Draft brief, clear incident narratives that summarize the circumstances of each case in plain, concise language.
- Manage multiple work queues and deadlines while maintaining high quality and attention to detail.
- Collaborate regularly with team members and senior analysts for guidance, quality checks, and knowledge sharing.
- Contribute to documentation, process improvements, and evolving analytical practices over time.
Experience with occupational health and safety and structured coding (e.g. OIICS, ICD coding) is preferred. However, training for OIICS version 3.03 coding will be provided.
- A bachelor’s degree in communications, health/environmental science, statistics, or related field
- Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail, with the ability to apply rules consistently
- Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely

- Experience or strong interest in data analysis, public health, occupational safety, epidemiology, or related fields
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint)
- Willingness and ability to learn new software and technical skills as required
- Experience with structured classification or coding systems (e.g., OIICS, ICD, or similar)

- Familiarity with SAS, R, Power BI, Qlik, or other analytical tools
- Prior exposure to occupational health, injury or illness surveillance, or public health research
