Gestionnaire senior des donnes/Senior Manager, Data Engineering

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Gestionnaire senior des données/Senior Manager, Data Engineering based in Canada.

This is a senior technical leadership opportunity focused on building and evolving modern data platforms at scale.
You will lead a team of data engineers while remaining hands-on with architecture, engineering practices, and technical decisions.
The role centers on a Databricks lakehouse environment using Spark, Delta Lake, and Unity Catalog.
You will shape the platform roadmap, balancing new capabilities, reliability, quality, and technical debt.
A major focus will be on operational excellence, automated testing, observability, and data quality.
You will also champion responsible AI adoption across development, testing, and operations to accelerate delivery.

Accountabilities
  • Lead and mentor a team of data engineers while remaining actively involved in technical architecture, design decisions, engineering discussions, and career development.
  • Define the architectural vision for a large-scale Databricks lakehouse using technologies such as Spark, Delta Lake, and Unity Catalog.
  • Own the technical roadmap and ongoing evolution of the data platform, working closely with architects, product managers, business stakeholders, and other technical teams.
  • Balance the delivery of new platform capabilities with technical debt reduction, scalability, maintainability, and long-term engineering priorities.
  • Establish rigorous standards for data quality and reliability, including automated testing, validation frameworks, data quality SLAs, CI/CD, monitoring, and observability.
  • Drive a strong operational excellence culture through incident management, on-call ownership, blameless root cause analysis, and proactive reliability improvements.
  • Lead the responsible adoption of AI-assisted development, testing, and operational practices, scaling effective approaches across the data engineering organization.
  • Support the professional growth of engineers by providing regular coaching, feedback, mentorship, and opportunities to expand their technical and leadership capabilities.
Requirements
  • Proven and extensive experience in data engineering, combined with strong expertise in data architecture and the ability to design and justify large-scale lakehouse and distributed data systems.
  • Previous experience managing and developing an engineering team, with a strong track record of coaching technical talent and supporting career progression.
  • Hands-on experience with Databricks, including Spark, Delta Lake, and Unity Catalog, as well as strong proficiency in Python and SQL.
  • Experience working with cloud environments such as AWS or Azure and building reliable, scalable data platforms in production.
  • Significant experience implementing automated pipeline testing, data validation, CI/CD, monitoring, observability, and other data quality practices within demanding SaaS environments.
  • Strong operational and incident management experience, including on-call ownership, service-level agreements, root cause analysis, and measurable reliability improvements.
  • Demonstrated ability to adopt and scale AI tools within engineering workflows, using them responsibly to improve development, testing, and operational efficiency.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, technical leadership, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, product, architecture, and business functions.
  • Fluency in French is required for permanent positions in Quebec to support communication with colleagues, partners, and suppliers in the province.
  • Fluency in English is also required to collaborate with colleagues, customers, and partners primarily located outside Quebec and to understand technical and scientific documentation.
