Job Summary: Technician I - Networking is an entry-level technical role responsible for the installation, testing, maintenance, and support of structured cabling and low-voltage network infrastructure. Working under the direct supervision of a Lead Technician, this position reviews and implements installation plans, blueprints, and project documentation to ensure high-quality network and communications system installations. The Technician I is expected to perform hands-on installation activities, maintain safety and quality standards, provide exceptional customer service, and contribute to successful project completion through attention to detail, teamwork, and problem-solving.
Responsibilities:
- Install, terminate, label, test, certify, and document copper and fiber optic cabling systems in accordance with project specifications, industry standards, and company best practices.
- Install and support structured cabling infrastructure, including data networks, wireless systems, CCTV, access control, audiovisual (AV), and unified communication systems.
- Install network racks, cabinets, patch panels, cable management systems, ladder rack, and other telecommunications infrastructure.
- Perform cable pulls and ensure proper routing, support, separation, securing, and labeling of all cabling components.
- Review and interpret project documentation, including floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, wall elevations, conduit layouts, signal flow diagrams, cable schedules, and installation drawings.
- Work closely with the Lead Technician to understand project requirements, installation plans, schedules, milestones, and customer expectations.
- Complete installations, testing, troubleshooting, and service work professionally while maintaining high standards of workmanship and attention to detail.
- Utilize basic knowledge of copper, fiber, audio, video, and control cable termination techniques, as well as networking, cable length restrictions, and link loss principles.
- Assist with rack buildouts, equipment mounting, power distribution, ventilation, cable management, and network equipment installations.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, including test results, as-built drawings, daily reports, packing slips, safety checklists, and timecards.
- Communicate project progress, concerns, open items, and potential installation challenges to the Lead Technician and project team, while helping identify practical solutions in the field.
- Provide exceptional customer service and interact professionally with customers, contractors, and other project stakeholders at all times.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, following all company safety policies, quality standards, OSHA requirements, and construction site regulations.
- Operate effectively in a variety of environments, including construction sites, corporate offices, data centers, healthcare facilities, and other customer locations.
- Travel and work overtime as needed to support project requirements and perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- 1-3 years of experience in structured cabling, low-voltage systems, networking infrastructure, or a related technical field.
- Experience installing, terminating, testing, and troubleshooting Cat5e/Cat6 and fiber optic cabling.
- Experience installing telecommunications infrastructure, including racks, cabinets, patch panels, and cable management systems.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, floor plans, cable schedules, and installation documentation.
- Basic knowledge of networking infrastructure, cabling standards, termination techniques, and testing procedures.
- Strong customer service, communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and ability to pass background screening requirements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2-5 years of experience in structured cabling, networking, telecommunications, security, AV, or other low-voltage technologies.
- Post-secondary education, technical certification, or trade training in Networking, Telecommunications, Electronics, Electrical Technology, or a related field.
- Experience with CCTV, access control, wireless, audiovisual, nurse call, RTLS, or unified communications systems.
- Industry certifications such as BICSI, Fiber Optic Technician, OSHA, Fall Protection, Lift Operator, or similar credentials.
- Experience working in enterprise, healthcare, education, government, or data center environments.
- Strong technical troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills with the ability to learn new technologies quickly.

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The use of power tools will berequiredto effectively perform this position. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 poundsand maybe requiredto work at heights over 1.8m(6 feet)

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, work on job sites, may berequiredto travel to and from job site locations, may work in a typical office environment, and is occasionally exposed to construction equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Confined space entry may berequired. High work may berequired.
Additional Information:
- Compensation: $20 - $28 per hour
- Working Hours: This position generally works Monday- Friday, overtime and on call when necessary
- Travel Requirements: Local travel and/or out of state as needed.
